IPhone rear glass…fix or not?

I took my phone out of its case today to clean the charge port and discovered this. No idea how long it’s been smashed.

I can see places will replace the rear glass but does anyone know if it’s worth it?

It is regularly wet in my pocket when riding etc.

No functions are currently affected so I was considering putting a layer of clear tape over it to hold it all together.

Mine is similar. Been like that for over a year. I’ve just put a sticker over it and it’s been fine. I’d show you a photo but, well…

Do you keep it in a rear pocket out of interest?

Happened to my previous phone. I just put some gaffer over it & put it back in the case! It will mean it’s essentially worthless for trade-in now, though.

Mine was much worse. I taped it up and left it. It eventually died due to water ingress on a very wet ride. Appl wanted £260 to repair it on a iPhone 12. Third party fix was like £100

It fell out of my pocket on a ride. It sat in the rain for 10 days. Then some one went over it with a mower smashing the back but throwing it into the open. It would still be working if it hadn’t sat in water

As it’s just the rear glass, and the impact doesn’t seem to have gone further than that, I’d get it fixed. There’s lots of places that can do it, Apple are making it easier for 3rd party repairs to be done, and as there’s no sensors involved it shouldn’t be too expensive. I think I’d get a more substantial case for it too – that’s quite a hard impact caused that!
My current phone has an Otterbox Defender on it, with a toughened glass camera lens protector and screen protector, but I’ve been using Ringke Fusion cases for some years and they’ve worked well – they have a lanyard fitting and I’ve used a lanyard with a snap buckle for years to attach it to my belt or a belt-loop, to avoid dropping the thing.

It’s been in a quadlock case which I use in the car. I won’t get thicker than that for convenience riding etc.

Never goes in the back pocket either.

I buy phones outright and this is nearly three years old and fine. Would probably get handed down when I get a new one.

Looks like about £60 to fix, it’s more the hassle of taking half a day to take it to get fixed due to where I live.
