Why type when you can use the built in voice recognition software (A feature of the iPed three, four and iPhone 4s and five I think?)? It even understands my dodgy Kiwi accent! Even more surprisingly, it understands my mother-in-laws Scottish accent, which I thought would be a bridge too far. For those of you who haven’t discovered yet, it’s the little microphone symbol on the left of the space bar on the keyboard. Used for this message in its entirety. Resorting to typing to say… Comma, full stop, open/close brackets, new paragraph, question mark etc all understood

Edit: it looks like it did pick up my accent with its interpretation of the word iPad! Gotta love those kiwi flattened vowel sounds…..

Have arrived at family events that saying that the haven’t yet got their holiday photos onto their ipad. Apparently drag and drop isn’t allowed?

Because its not needed. Ever heard of photostream? All my pics on all my 3 Apple devices without lifting a finger. 🙂

Either that or you can just sync your pics. I don’t do that as I upload them to Flickr.

Their next tablet will be Android

Proof that the education system is fundamentally flawed and producing morons I’ll equipped for the rigours of daily life.

No USB input on Asus Nexus 7 either.

Yes there is. You can plug into the mini USB no problem.

Not sure what is wrong with the keyboard (other than it isn’t tactile because it is on-screen)?

I think it has some nice features (like accents and the .co.uk button, emoji, dictation, undocking to move around the screen, splitting in two to use your thumbs etc)

Graham, I just prefer the swipe functionality of the android one. There’s nothing wrong with the ipad one as such, I just find swiping much easier/quicker.

I’m not compatible with iTunes, that’s my main problem with apple products. IOS and android are much of a muchness to me these days. There again I drive a Mondeo, not an Audi.

    * It’s heavy. REALLY heavy, and the sharp edges hurt if you try to hold in it one hand.

Forced in to inputting payment details upon initiation.
    Expensive
    Grainy image producing camera.
    Un expandable memory.
    No USB input
Apple specificity of connections could frustrate.

If you want to install apps, or buy music, what do you expect. You have to do similar with Amazon?
The camera is grainy in low light, as are pretty much all mobile cameras.
If you have expandable memory, like SD cards, you still have to take something off to allow something else to be added; you can only have one card in a slot at a time. Things like photos go into Photostream anyway, so you can delete photos when there’s too many on the Pad.
What do you mean by no USB input? It connects by USB, and there’s ways of getting stuff onto an iPad via USB; use the Camera Kit, it has two connectors, one with an SD card slot, one with a USB port. I use Dropbox, Air Sharing, Downloader and USB Disk for transferring stuff, as well as iTunes.
It means not carrying easily lost SD or SD Micro cards around.

We got an iPad just a few weeks ago, and our first apple product.

Its nice, well screwed together, and does what it does very well. However it hasn’t made me want to buy in to the Apple dream, I don’t like the fact I can’t connect it straight to my phone or printer, and get files on to it is a PITA, then I can’t use it to stream to other devices either…

Already looking at what alternatives are out there with detachable keyboard, and can do the above.

What is the “apple dream” can you buy that in the app store?

The Apple dream requires eating blue cheese apples at bed time I believe.

Funny isn’t it? All these issues.. ( the Connectivity being my personal gripe)
    yet still so popular?
I wonder a bike manufacturer making a frame which only accepts same brand specific size forks, wheels etc and paying over the odds for the privilege….

Can any of the iPad fans on here explain to me how I get it to print to the printer I have connected to a Windows XP print server on my WiFi network? Buy a new printer is an incorrect answer.

Or here’s another one for you – how do you send an e-mail with 2 different attachments?

Companies like google, Sony, HTC, nokia, samsung, asus, acer etc would give everything to know the secret of their success.

All these little gripe aside, the technology we have at the moment is absolutely amazing. I still marvel at these devices, be it iPad, iPhone, Android or whatever. Maybe I’m easily pleased 😀

Oh n yes the British car industry deserved to die.

It didn’t (die) though did it?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2210199/Britain-producing-MORE-cars-Germany-How-UK-car-production-capital-Europe.html#axzz2KWZMuvCS

And that’s not the whole industry, Ford has it’s EU R&D in Essex, and lots of the F1 teams located in/around Northamtonshire.

    ipads are brilliant.
Great screen, intuitiive to use and good support.

Coupled with Dropbox and a proper PC at home and work its my default device for 90% of my internet and digital time.

….that said. Surface Pro might be just the ticket for my ideal all in one device.

I’ve never been miffed that I can’t fit a BMW engine into my C-max. It’s a business model that works in lots of other industries, just not one we were ever really used to seeing in computers as most people got used to PC’s and their interchangeability.

OP, I seem to remember that you drive aeroplanes with lots of people in them around the skies for a living. Should we be worried that they let you do this, yet you can’t use an iPad? 😉

Any documents of a reasonable size ie over about 10mb, which are on an encrypted works USB stick.

I’m not saying you can’t do it, it’s just a pain.

In fact, it proved so difficult to re-arrange the icons on the screen I had to Google it to find out if I was doing it wrong.

Probably not something you should admit to in public.

surely there’s software available that will enable your print server to act as an AirPrint server as well? Can’t help you any more than that as I took the smart option and moved away from Windows years ago 8)

As to the multiple attachments thing – no need. Just zip all your files together and send as one attachment.

Come on, its more than just fashion.
Their kit is generally better than the rivals. Higher resolution screens, more premium feel and fit/finish.

That said I really fancy an acer or samsung ultrabook as my next device.

Not just fashion at all though, is it? And nor is it an overnight success. It’s many years of ploughing a different furrow and sticking to it, developing a product and, OK yes, an image, that worked and made people want to buy it. Then, make it as good quality as possible, provide (in my experience) faultless customer service. And then, when you’ve created all if that, make it desirable by slightly under supplying new products to give exclusivity.

Shimano used to do EXACTLY the same thing with their fishing tackle…. Yep. That Shimano. 🙂

Nobody is making you buy it

Ok so my sister can now get her pictures onto an ipad using an sd adaptor now

But that would drive me mad as I post process all my pictures on PC. No App gets close to doing what I want yet. It is of course easy enough to get photos onto an ipad if you use Itunes. Whilst I’m happy to let itunes play with my music files I’d be loathed to let it loose on my pictures as well. I have Lightroom for that

A lack of a simple drag and drop for photos, that you created, can hardly be seen as a good thing. Particularly as the competition allows this

You could… maybe you can’t, no. I dont think ford are doing anything to prevent you either? Neither are they making you buy their own wheels ,tyres ,audio system etc.
Are we purposely missing the point?

    Maybe. Maybe not.

Are you being purposefully picky and pedantic to make yourself look clever? That was just an illustration of a point, nothing more. You know what he meant…. But you just MUST argue. 🙄
