Anyone else doing the cold showers? Supposed to induce cold adaptation resulting in better fat metabolism or something – only thing it’s currently inducing is extreme verbal diarrhoea.

    Haha, brilliant! You’re absolutely mad.

I just had a sausage roll.

When i was running lots, i often had an ice bath at the end. The only benefit(?) was my ex lol’ing at the swear words coming from the bathroom. It did nothing for my recovery but i did lose weight (suspect it was from lots of running, not the ice baths!)

How do you make a sausage roll?

Fair enough. I think finding what works for you is more important than sticking to any particular plan – as you obviously are.

Sorry if my post sounded a bit judgemental I was being quick as I had some work to do. Talking of which, as your on here again does this mean you have a new job?

    not golden showers.

These aren’t cold. One would imagine.

Ice baths/cold showers do cause fat loss. It’s not even close to being disputed – brown adipose tissue stimulated by exposure to cold metabolises white adipose tissue. But they’re vile to do.

Why are Eskimos a bit fat then ?

They live in a freezer and only eat protein. Answer me that clever clogs.

Have done the cold shower thing a few times usually following weights or kettlebells session, it does make you swear a bit though. As iDave said, it’s proper science and that, for more info see the 4 hour body book / website.
Just had scrambled egg cannelinii beans and salsa (again) with chickpea flabreads. What about fast carbs if you are riding ? I do a 10 mile each way bike commute 3 times a week, anyone know if and when u can have bread etc then?

yes to fast carbs during and after intense exercise.

So during and after exercise fast carbs are ok, are there restrictions on how long before and after and what u can eat?

You’re supposed to eat carbs & protein within the hour after hard exercise to aid recovery. I’d recommend chocolate cake and ice cream.

    Anyway. Back to my magazine.

Scruff 5 pints post ride seems fine, if you then crash into the canal on the way home you can have the added bonus of getting some cold water shiver therapy

Re the carbs after exercise – the promise of a coke or something sweet post ride is often the only thing that gets me out on a ride 🙂

Phil.w – no worries.. not exactly got a job yet but I’ve got a permie offer now from IBM that I’m not sure I want cos it’s less money than contracting…

    After riding with me… 🙁

Philc – well.. me and mtb.. see the thing is, I am one of these people who crave new experiences. I like trundling around my local loops but after so many years it’s just like.. well.. shaving, or doing the garden, you know?

That’s why I’m training (or trying to) cos it gives me goals and focus. I’d be thrill seeking around the mountains of the world but with a young family that’s going to have to wait. And if I take a permie job it’ll have to wait a lot more!

i understand that craving, as a psych nurse i also know the cure… giving your bikes away to kind young fellows called phil 😀

alternatively you should come to the swinley forum ride <—

Yeah.. I’d go out riding but I feel bad about leaving Mrs Grips. Not really fair on her currently for me to be zipping all over the place for a whole day at a time just to ride.

Right, here’s an iDave question for you. I had a cooked brekkie this morning, been swimming with the kids, came back in and I had soup for lunch. But I’m still hungry – what could I make quickly?

You could always man up and ignore the hunger? Try a glass if water.
