Brilliant idea! Who?
listen, do we have to do *everything* for you ? One might suppose you should look for a plump gentleman (like "Pie in the Sky" Richard Griffiths) for the best results if your dungeon can cope with such powerfully built individuals…
cinnamon_girlFull MemberOooh Simon, should I put a "wanted" ad in the Classifieds then? Oh and who's been gossiping about my dungeon then? 😉
iDaveFree Memberif he wasn't busy wringing his hands over fruit classification data, sfb could cook you some meals lacking in sufficient protein…
simonfbarnesFree Membershould I put a "wanted" ad in the Classifieds then?
"WANTED: Sizeable gourmet gentleman for extensive culinary and bondage duties, with a reasonable prospect of eventual release once the dominatrix has reached the required weight and slaked her unnatural desires"
Oh and who's been gossiping about my dungeon then?
it was pure intuition…
SoloFree MemberJust checked the beans. Amazing !, they're starting to grow !
Canellini are winning so far. Pinto beans don't appear to doing much, so far…
Thirsty little beans !.
S
cinnamon_girlFull Member😆 @ sfb but I must correct you on a couple of points! Dominatrix? Nah, I'm a pussycat in real life, ask any Southerner 😉 Unnatural desires? Really??!!
simonfbarnesFree MemberUnnatural desires? Really??!!
well, you would say that innit ?
KevaFree MemberSlight problem – I don't do cooking.
CG… what do you eat then ?!?
Kev
SoloFree MemberWell. Got up this morning and the thirsty little beans I'd topped up last night, still had water covering them, so all good.
Thanks iDave 😉Then I rinsed using the strainer, under running cold water
Then, into the pan for a boil-up
Got a bit bubbly on the surface, so occassionally skimmed that off using a spoon.
once bioled up, left to drain and then put into a kilner jar for later.
Always follow the preparation instructions on the packaging of the beans.
Easy !
🙂
The plan for these is dressed beans with tuna
The recipe is to feed 4, so adjust the numbers as you wish:
100g dried canellini beans
100g dried borlotti beans (I couldn't get these so have used pinto beans)
Olive Oil
1 red onion, peeled and finely sliced
4 Anchovy fillets (I'm not an Anchovy fan, so I'll try this, without)
1-2 fresh red chillies, de-seeded and finely chopped ( I leave some seeds in sometimes as I like the heat)
freshly ground balck pepper, maybe just a pinch of salt
4 x 225g tuna steaks about 1cm thick
zest and juice of 2 lemons
mixed herbs (chives, chervil, basil parsley, mint, whatever you think will go with this. Chopped. This is principally a JO recipe.
Do the tuna as you like it, I grill mine.
use the oil, onion, chilli, etc to create the dressing
dress the beans, mix the dressed beans with the herbs
Thats your dressed beans and tuna !.S
alexxxFree Membermm sounds excellent, i haven't got around to tuna steaks yet!? god knows why but this is why this thread is ace, tuna steaks for tea now! 😀
simonfbarnesFree MemberCG… what do you eat then ?!?
cereals, pitta bread, crumpets, pasta with bought-in sauce, salads, fruit, cake, cheese, biscuits, bread in all its delightful variations, raw porridge oats – I've survived decades unscathed with no more than occasional heating of things 🙂
[edit] also takeaways and eating out :o)
cinnamon_girlFull MemberPolite request: suggestions please for breakfast. Am not sure I can give up my beloved porridge but certainly couldn't face meat instead! Would prefer to avoid eggs as they tend to be eaten for lunch.
Have bought some tinned beans, presumably they are not as nice as the dried ones?
Oh, before I forget, one for iDave: presumably dried fruit is forbidden fruit?
Very impressive to see all these people busy in the kitchen. 🙂 Some tasty looking menus!
tonFull Memberi have just eaten half a roast chicken, with carrots cabbage leeks and broccoli……….all from the father in laws allotment.
simonfbarnesFree Memberpresumably they are not as nice as the dried ones?
they might actually be fresher – and drying is unlikely to improve the flavour
oh and chilli and lemons are fruit too…
cinnamon_girlFull Memberton – you didn't really eat half a chicken did you??!! Bet that veg was delicious 🙂
Simon – I don't eat beans so was hoping that the knowledgable STW folk would enlighten me. Don't eat chilli so no loss there!
tonFull Membercg………yes. skin removed mind.
veg was delicious.
he has recently retired and has gone mad, we never have to buy veg/most salad stuff now.
😀simonfbarnesFree MemberI don't eat beans so was hoping that the knowledgable STW folk would enlighten me
well, I think it's reasonable to suppose the goodness scale goes: fresh / tinned / dried for most foods, though beans are able to survive drying and still germinate so not a lot is lost…
roperFree MemberHello everyone,
It's good to see you are all still going strong and so many have joined in. I'm still doing fine, I had my normal food day on Sat but am enjoying the new recipes quite a bit. I have exercised 5 days this week but nothing too hard and not felt week or tired. Though I have missed sweet things or the occasional cold fizzy drink and have felt the odd dip due to these. I have lost some body fat so it is going in the right direction but due to the exercises I don't appear to have lost any muscle.
cinnamon_girl,
I've been eating salads for breakfast (I did before the diet though). They are very refreshing and healthy and good to help you rehydrated too. If you want something a bit more substantial just sprinkle over some beans, nuts and seeds or flavoured chick peas. If you hate the idea of meat or eggs, what about fish or prawns, though a poached egg goes rather well?Well done all those keeping at it and good luck to those planning to start.
tailsFree MemberI just started today, can't see me doing 3 weeks. Had scrabbled eggs and ham. Going to see if I can get some more imaginative menus.
SoloFree MemberBB.
How did it work out with the bean prep ?.
Mine went fine. I made just a small batch for the pics ^^^ but will make more, soon.
Solo
scottyjohnFree MemberStarting today after a weekend pig out 🙂
Just had nuts and coffee on the way to work, and am now going for a couple of poached eggs and some sausage yum yum. Then veggie omlette at lunch. Tonight is bean prep as they have been soaking overnight. But I found large tins of tuna and bean salad that dont look too toxic, so Im having one of those and some salad tonight. Weighed in this morning at 129.5 kg, so long way to go. 6'2" and stocky built, but more fat than muscle these days. Decided enough was enough, and this eating plan came along at the right time for me, so need to get on with it now.
hilldodgerFree MemberI think it's reasonable to suppose the goodness scale goes: fresh / tinned / dried for most foods
All depends on which product and how it has been stored, transported and processed.
For legumes tinned is worse than dried as the beans will have been preblanched, pasteurised then added to some gloopy salt/sugar mix for the tinning.hilldodgerFree MemberAnyway, that's enough of the hairy twigman….
…..end of week one, no problems with menu – seem to have adapted pretty quick to the plan.
Weight loss: some but not really much to lose
Energy levels: seem to have swapped some speed for endurance, certainly takes a few more miles that ususal to get 'into' my ride, but then it's been bastid hot and that's probably had an effect.
Do feel more level throughout the day, no more post lunch slump 🙂
General 'feel': pretty good, the 'eat what you like day' is good, thinking more about what you eat is good, less sugar is good, chuckling at the AW posts is good – it's all good 😀vinnyehFull Memberfirst post on this, but I started on this last Thursday- I've put on 18 pounds this year, 6 of them in the last 3 weeks, so was a bit concerned!
I've lost 6 pounds, apparently, according to the scales this morning, first time I've weighed myself since starting. While this is a bit fast for my liking, a lot of it may be down to the end of a rash of eating out and drinking.
I've been eating the spinach and chorizo omelette for breakfast each morning, hummus and vegetables for lunch, and chicken/fish/steak with lettuce and bean salad for dinner. Restricted myself to water and coffee to drink.
I've noticed the omelette really helps to prevent midmorning snack cravings (i've never really done breakfast before). Totally removing potatoes, cheese and bread from my diet, all of which I used to eat in fairly large quantities can't be doing any harm either.
I do feel better for this as well – three hours out on the bike yesterday with a couple of gels and bottles of water, and I still felt good.
Dave's simple instructions have made it quite easy to focusSoloFree MemberVinnyeh.
That sounds good, seems like you've cracked it.
Dave's simple instructions have made it quite easy to focus
Thats the way I saw it.
🙂tailsFree MemberWhat I didn't get was idave said lean meat which chorizo is not. I might try an omelette tomorrow.
vinnyehFull MemberI didn't understand that either, but wasn't complaining- I love the stuff. It's a pretty small amount though to flavour the omelette- I bought a whole chorizo, then slice up about an inch of it (20g) into half a dozen slices. Some of the fat probably comes out if you cook it prior to adding the eggs. 😉
simonfbarnesFree MemberWhat I didn't get was idave said lean meat which chorizo is not
"chouriço get their distinctive smokiness and deep red color from dried smoked red peppers" = fruit
SoloFree MemberI'm not doing the Chorizo and egg thing, so its not so much a question for me.
I've just been having 20g-30g of almond nuts in the morning and that sees me to lunchtime.
S
alexxxFree MemberHey all, so today is my 7th day so Im eating what I want but not going wild, mainly excited about eating weetabix for breakfast 😀
Anyway I've got a point to make which others maybe missed or maybe got hooked up on some of the "rules"
The whole idea about this plan is to force you to learn new meals, food groups and snacks that you'd probably neglected for an easier fattier option.
A week in it's apparent to me what I've been missing and pigging out on. I've learnt some great new meals that I'd happily eat weekly.
Dont get hooked up on using a bit of Chorizo or Lemon for seasoning… thats not the point, unless your using a handful of salt or butter then there is no problem there.
Its better for you guys to stick to this healthy lean diet than cheating and binge snacking rather than little treats or bends.
the rules arent rules they are guides that have worked for previous people.
personally my thoughts on it all summed up are
its very benefitial and helps you realise a lot about your eating habbits and greed levels
meals learnt will follow on into my daily lifestyle
much more aware of whats in products, better food educationI'm 11stone12 on the mark today when writing this, I started on 12stone5 7 days ago, the last few days ive been losing .02 / .04 a day, im guessing this is the hard point to lose weight because im 6 foot and quite within the average weight for height.
I'm baking up some homemade flapjack today and will be having a bar before doing road rides this week and still living how i have for the last week to see if exercise can help speed up the process.
It's different for everyone, its not always easy, but it is easy to become lazy… I think thats the lesson you need to teach yourselves… not just say yeah i know.. but to actually understand and appreciate it.
Cheers guys
Alps – i'll type up a section with all the good receipies and a starts shopping list to help anyone, maybe today or tomorrow
JamieFree Member….starting today so lets see what happens.
I guess this is my new best friend as I can't be asked to cook beans properly….
30p at lidls
, and am now going for a couple of poached eggs and some sausage
I thought the recommendation was just for lean meats/fish?
rossendalelemmingFree MemberStarted at the weekend, everything is going ok just miss my orange juice in the mornings. Went to ASDA yesterday and bough a load of nuts, carefully checking the contents and the Alergy advice of "May contain nuts). After throwing a handful of the peanut/cashew mix (with Sea Salt and Black Pepper) down my neck my wife pointed out i can't have them! At the bottom of the ingrediants "Dried Milk Powder" WTF is that doing in there?
WoodyFree MemberJamie – those beans are ace and save a load of hassle. I would also recommend the Nixe mackerel fillets from Lidl in sunflower oil (not so keen on the ones in tomato sauce!) and the mini salami (pack of 3) on special at the moment as an alternative to chorizo.
What is the word on olives BTW?
LOL @ rossendalemming and nuts. I did exactly the same with salted peanuts for the first 2 weeks as a protein snack before seeing that they weren't ideal! Didn't seem to do any harm though.
I'm near the end of week 4 on a similar eating plan and am very happy with results. Trousers are loose (used to be uncomfortably tight) and at this rate I'll soon get into that DeKerf top I haven't been able to wear for 5+ years without looking like the only gay in the village 🙂
JamieFree Member@ Woody:
Which
dietlifestyle change are you doing then? Any other recommendations as off to Lidls in a bit 8) Going to stock up on some more beans….i think they may even be cheaper than 30p now i think about it. Going to get some almonds as well I think.
