my experience, (31 years mtb, and have worked in 5 different shops) some people can break anything

Speaking of which, whatever happened to @MidlandTrailquestsGraham?

I bought some SLX cranks in 09. They’ve been on 150mm trail bike, a couple of hardtails and a rigid SS. No snappage happened. They will of covered thousands of miles. I did manage to bend the spider through a rock strike though.

Now retired due to worn splines otherwise they’d still be in use.

I’ve never seen or heard of a crank snap other than a couple on the net.

Lol mtqg, yeah he wore a few bits out eh.

    Anyway, back to business.

i used some specialized cranks in 1996, they were fine.

my mate used some specialized cranks in 2014, they broke.

zomg, 50% of all the specialized cranks ive seen have broken!!

    that is an actual fact.

would it stop me from buying specialized cranks do you think?

    roflcopters . . . .

I have done a statistical analysis based on assumed values for the high and low cycles. It gets a bit technical but the numbers work out to be every 11th Thursday.

    every 11th Thursday.

is that when they will snap? Or when you can safely ride them?

does it count if you miss a ride that day for some other reason?

or will they only snap every 11th Thursday if it’s a full moon?

I’ve some from 1986 that are still fine so we now only have a failure rate of 33.3333333333333333333333333%

I knackered the taper in my Spesh cranks in 2000, so back to 50% failure rate.
