We wanted to keep costs down but not brave enough to go the full DIY route and not convinced it would save us money if we needed to hire acros.
I put in the building notice, got building control to come round and take a look and confirm they were happy with size beam we were getting, ordered the beam, paid a builder £150 to fit, knocked the wall down, boarded with fireboard, got building control back in to sign off.
So builder was £150, building control was £160 ish, steel was £80. We already had a skip hired because of other work but it’s something to factor in, it’s amazing how much stuff a bit of wall contains.
Knocking walls down is very therapeutic 🙂
