Just had my renewal quote from Aviva and it’s going up by around 40%. I’ve been with them years as you don’t need to specify individual bikes and they cover up to a max value of £5k per bike.

This suited us well as we have 2 e-bikes, 2 DH bikes and 2 enduro bikes to cover.

Anyone renewed recently or had any decent quotes?

Worth getting a quote from Pedal Cover but you’ll need receipts/proof of purchase in order to get new-for-old cover.

Check the small print for coverage, so many ‘max garage cover…’ or ‘chained using unobtanium’ in the clauses that your coverage is pretty rubbish if you ever have to make a claim!

Mine are specified items with esure.

I never carry a cafe lock that meets the required standard, thats a risk I accept.

Been with Halifax for a few years now. Currently cheapest quote are with MBNA (Lloyds). Cover looks OK, but I need to check a couple of specifics with them relating to chaining the bikes to my caravan when we are on holiday. Halifax are happy that meets the requirements of a ‘fixed/immovable’ object, Esure/Sheila’s Wheels etc aren’t, even though they used to be, so they have clearly changed their UW criteria.

Last time I spoke to Pedalcover they admitted they were very uncompetitive for anyone with more than a couple of bikes. I’ve got 7 and they wanted an awful lot of money.

I’ve been with Admiral – it was amazingly cheap to add a 6k ebike to the policy but it does have a ‘max contents in outbuildings’ clause of something like 5k.

Got five or six named, mostly £3k to £4.5k.

£400 seemed decent enough to me, what do you lot think?

They quoted me nearer £800, bikes of a similar value to yours. If my Aviva policy gets hiked excessively at next renewal I’ll give Pedalcover another chance.

Was paying that for a few years after I’d made a big claim (because all my bikes got nicked).

You can knock a bit off your pedalcover quote if you join Cycling UK.

I have m@s insurance and have the bikes as an add on. Costs me about 45 quid a month all in, ie that includes all the other stuff in my house plus insurance for individual bikes up to a value of 7 grand each

i should also point out that includes accidental damage. Ie last year they paid out 4K when I snapped the chainstay of my giant tcr when I crashed. Couldn’t believe they coughed up no questions asked, didn’t even ask for the rest of the bike back (ie the undamaged di2 group set and wheels). And amazingly my premium didn’t even go up the next year!

Just got a quick quote from M&S

Standard cover but with bike added up to a maximum value of £10000 (unlimited bikes) – £365

Aviva wanted £690 for my renewal. I haven’t fully compared both levels of cover but happy with the bike cover part of that quote.

We’re still with Direct Line Select who happily include all our bikes (even the e-cargo) without needing to specify. They’re not on comparison websites but might be worth a look. I think it’s designed for posh people cos they ask you about how many antique firearms you own but they’ve routinely beat any other insurance combo for us for years.

Was with Sainsbury’s but they tried to hike my premium by 2k when I added a new FS because the e-cargo was an Ebike that had been on the policy for a few years.  Now with ensure I think.

We’re with Aviva, but limited to £5k per bike.

I’ve had an awful time claiming with Pedal Cover, and was lied to and ended up having to really push hard to find out what the actual was happening..

Just gone with Quote Me Happy.  £5000 max on bikes.  £245, buildings, contents, legal and emergency cover.  Was with MBNA last year, but they put up the excesses this year, so looked elsewhere.

Just went through Quidco for a quote, the best two were Sainsbury’s bank and M&S.

The M&S quote came out the same at around £365 with infinite bikes covered up to £10000 each.

The Sainsbury’s one was £261 with all the bikes listed (total of £23000). Also 0% APR and £34 back from Quidco.

Presumably musket-wielding toffs don’t get robbed that often…

I went with M&S too yesterday after being told my current insurance wasn’t happy with my new new bike.. So we cut-ties and i went M&S. They seem to not care how much your bikes are worth, only the most expensive one.

Just resurrecting this in case it is useful to anyone.  My MBNA premium went up about 10% this year, TBH  , less than I expected.  But they still limit total bike cover to £10k.  This hasnt been increased for years, so price increases are a very one-sided factor.  But at £322 for next year, I’ll probably stick and accept the risk that my bikes are a little under insured.

MBNA will be the same as Lloyds , Halifax and Bank of Scotland.  They also say they wont be haggled down online or by phone (so I will be sending a telegram forthwith!).

Just renewed today with Aviva – £5000 limit per bike. – Less than last year, about £320, B&C.
