On my old Samsung S4 I could untick the sync email box on the exchange server setting on my phone so that even if I absent mindaly refreshed my emails they didn’t come through resulting in a happy holiday and marriage. However on my new HTC M8 it doesn’t seem to make any difference. I can’t just delete the whole account for the week as it also holds all of my contacts. Any ideas?

And yes I am aware that better self control is one answer!!

On my phone (Sony) you can change the refresh frequency to ‘manual’.
If you don’t open the mail app, it won’t update and it doesn’t give you any notifications.

Andyl – we are going for a weeks mtb. Singletrack is fair game. Lol

Mike. Hummm thanks. I’m on Lollipop 5.0.1 with no updates available and that doesn’t seem to exist.

Stumpy – yes done that bit. I just know I refresh it without thinking. Addicted academic with a problem!

Hunmmm maybe this is the one tiny area that Samsung won over the HTC. This is going to be a good exercise in self control.

Ahha. Have removed app from home screen which should help!

Maybe I’ll just put Strava in its place….

MTB with your missus. Envious 🙁

surely it will still check email even with it removed from the home page?

First thing to do is set an auto away message so you won’t feel the need to reply. On my Nexus 4 I can just go into settings for each account and uncheck “sync” and also edit notifications etc.

Lol. I am the missus. Mtb with the husband.

Yes I think I have stopped it auto syncing so it will only come up if I manually refresh so now’s it’s out of sight and out of mind. I think that will have to do.

looks again at the username, realizes the OP is just a bit backward rather than unusually honest (i was reading out loud in my head)
