I’m in the process of fitting GRX shifters, brakes and rear mechs to No.1 sons CX bikes, set up 1x on a 11-36t cassette, the gears work fine and shift up and down the cassette no problem.

Being CX bikes they get some hammer and the 400 series mechs have quite long cages, is there a known cage swap out there so you can drop a much shorter cage in there for that little bit of extra clearance?

Is a cage swap so easy with the clutch?

If you want a shorter mech any SS Road Mech from 4700 up is an option, but will all of course lack a clutch.

There was an Ultegra CX specific mech (RX800) that had a clutch, but IIRC that didn’t have a particularly short cage either.

How about m8000 xt short cage still longish but stronger than a road cage (hopefully)

and m8000 long cage works with grx bodies to make a larger ratio setup

to swap you need to disassemble the clutch but is easy enough to do
