Just got myself a go pro and was wondering the best way to attach it to the top of my Full Face helmet. It came with a few of those adhesive mounts, however the top of the helmet has ridges on it, so even a curved mount doesn’t sit flush on the top.

Anyone come up with any solutions to this problem?

Stick it on the side and use an l-shaped bracket to turn the camera. Looks unwieldy but gives a better shot than the “sat on top” approach IMO.

I did the same as Northwind. My full face is slanted at the top, so it would of sat squint mounted up there. Its now mounted on the side. Gives a decent shot and a bit of perspective, with a little of the helmet showing.

Chest mount is by far the best, in my opinion. Its sometimes nice have a side mount on the helmet so you get a view of the full face chin guard, but chest mount means the viewer can actually see you riding, instead of just floating along the trail with the impression that you are cutting all the corners 🙂

Yeah I thought about mounting it on the side with the hinged mount, but does this not unbalance the helmet a bit, which would be noticable whilst riding?

Side-helmet mount lets you see the bike and the trail pretty well IMO. I know what you mean about the floaty feeling but if you aim it right, you don’t get that.

I used to use the chest mount but it often gets mud on it during winter.

I’ve recently been using the helmet which if you angle it down enough gives a great view of the bars and the trail ahead. Ignore the top mount, thats for my light.

This is one of my favourite spots though but reserved strictly for summer.

I modified one of the supplied mounts so a strap of my rucksack would fit through it. Gives roughly the same perspective as a chest mount but less faff.

best position imo, gives a more actually riding the bike feel because you can see the bars and it’s lower like the chesty. Not like the virtual trail fly through you see a lot from cameras mounted on top of helmets

+1 Got mine for my GoPro2 for £25.

Also seat post looking back is good.

I agree chest mount is best, but a bit of variety is better still… Single POV videos of any length just get very dull.
