Metallica aren’t exactly my bag, but I thought that show was spot on.

Taxi for johndoh…taxi for johndoh….someone grab that half pint of vodka from him before he does or says something stupid……….

Her voice is certainly amazing me, that’s for sure – or rather it’s amazing what can be done with overdubs and a decent compressor and auto tune/pro tools in the studio, her pitch was atrocious and she was so far out of key i thought it had to be intentional. Perhaps that’s unfair as she did have the look of a terrified rabbit on stage so maybe nerves got the better of her 🙄

Off course it’s easy for me to say that whilst hiding behind a keyboard but it was a very bad performance none the less and she’ll be aware of it, poor lass.

I thought she looked bored.

Pixies…..a band I know I should like, but can’t get on with.

The Pixies look like the Geography Department from my old school apart from the drummer. He is woodwork.

Good stuff though.

Enjoyed the Metallica, Trujillo is always great and I thought Hetfield was very restrained with the saying embarrassing stuff between songs. Now watching the Mogwai – fairly sure someone shouted “Play some Metallica” after their first tune. Quality.

I agree with Harry. Not my thing but really enjoyed it. That’s what I like about Glastonbury. You end up watching stuff you wouldn’t normally bother with and really quite enjoy it. I went from Metallica to Bryan Ferry. Brilliant.

Watching Lana Del Rey again. Her voice is **** amazing everyone!

Watched her first ever live TV appearance on Jules Holland a few years ago and she was really struggling with nerves. Not a fan, but glad for her if it was good.
Brian Ferry’s voice has gone to pot, presume it’s an age thing, he’s lost most of his range. I’m a bit young for Roxy Music, but love him/them in a background sort of way. He’s prob in his 70’s or something so fair enouff.

I was surprised how good a reception Metallica got. They were excellent, really tight performance as ever. \m/

Just got in from a pub and football night so haven’t seen any of Glastonbury tonight. Despite that, I know Pixies were far and away the best act of the night. End of.

I’m afraid Robert Plant or Goldfrapp took that honour, much as i like and admire the Pixes you really have to experience them at live gig to get the most out of them.

They were better than Metallica though………

Not much of an achievement though. Of all the sofs surfing of past Glastos, I can’t quite remember such a shit headliner.

“It’s called Cyaniiiiiiiiiiiide.”

At least they’re good for the LOLz.

Ok,, Metallica good, pixies good but did anyone catch wolf Alice?? Damn good band. I saw them at our local a few weeks ago and they were shit hot and this afternoon they played a great set. She’s very hot and plays a mean guitar.

Was very impressed with Metallica, and their reception.
I’ve seen them a few times over the years but not for a long long time, and to be honest I expected the worst.

Opening with Creeping Death a clear statement of intent and they carried the energy right the way through to Seek and Destroy. With the exception of Cyanide I loved every minute.

The twitter stats on the bbc site (Mettalica 51% pixies 5% ) and general web chatter would suggest most disagree with you. End of.

(Not a myopic fan of either)

opinions are like a$$holes, everyone’s etc.etc.

after reading/hearing the guff spouted about metallica’s set, i figured i’d check it out.

creeping death and for whom the bell tolls as openers.

effin’ huuuuuge sound. hearing hetfield shouting ‘glasto’ repeadtedly might annoy some, but is having a gushy warm effect on me.

awesumz.

I was a huge Metallica fan back in the day.
Saw them live a lot between ’88-’95 – they were always a superb band to watch.
It was with some trepidation I sat down and watched their ‘Glasto!’ set last night (which the Beeb missed the beginning of). TBH I thought they pulled it off – still pretty tight for a bunch of 50 year olds.
The bulk of their good material was up to ‘…And Justice For All’ in 1988 so they themselves were a lot younger and more angry – just right for ’14 year olds’ as someone pointed out 😉
The ‘black’ album in 91 made them a lot more mainstream and it was obvious they’d play the very un-Metallica-like ‘Nothing Else Matters’ to probably the most mainstream crowd they’ve ever played to (apart from the Freddie Mercury tribute gig in Wembley in 92).
Considering ‘4 in 5’ people wanted to offload their tickets when they heard ‘tallica were headling the Sat, I think they proved they did something right as there looked like there were a few people watching at the end ie rammed.
To all their detractors if you don’t like ’em fair enough. Don’t say they’re shit though as they’re clearly not.
Each to their own…I think Elbow are dull beyond belief but acknowledge they are very good musicians.
They have a massive back catalogue and have shifted millions and changed ‘metal’ from a bunch of hairspray, leather-clad twunts into something much more honest, distilled and acceptable. Call it what you will…metal, rock, heavy, it has it’s place at Glastonbury as much as any other genre and they’ve done more for it than any other band IMO in the last 30 years so good luck to ’em! 😈

Saw the highlights on telly, the half hour interpretive dance bag of **** was the most tedious thing I’ve seen in a while. Metallica seemed alright, apparently this set was better than what they did at rock am ring.

happy I’m going to Reading this year, lots of good metal and hardcore bands.

I was camping all weekend. Was a huge Metallica/slayer/megadeath/anthrax etc fan back in the day, and saw them all a lot of times. Did Metallica pull it off? I so hope so, and I so hope they shoved it up the naysayers asses. Roll on kasabian I say, another band who divide opinion but who are awesome live!

I’d say so. I’m not a fan but I was impressed.

You can watch their set on the iPlayer.

I’d allow a glastonbury aperitif and check out John Grant’s set.

I’ve downloaded the Arcade Fire set, ‘cos I only saw part of it. A bit daft, because I saw them a couple of weeks ago at Earls Court, and it’s much the same setup, but without the Mac on stage doing The Cutter, but I’m still boing to watch it through, followed by a download of Metallica’s set.

I’ll catch up on Goldfrapp later, although I’ve seen them three times in the last twelve months, then Pixies, Royal Blood, and anything else I can find.
Loved Plant’s set, really good stuff, and Dolly? What can you say? It was Dolly, in front of what must have been most of the paying punters; outstanding! 😉

i love it when its so loud it seems to constrict your lungs and it feels difficult to breathe

There used to be a three-piece called Dark Star, back in the mid-Nineties, if you stood in front of the drummer, you honestly felt that your heart might stop from the sheer impact on your chest! The drummer used to use maracas as drumsticks on the floor toms for extra ‘impact’.
Incredible band, loved them to bits. I think the drummer lives in Bristol, and teaches these days; I’d love to see them reform.

Where did the spare guitarist come from – do they normally play live as a 5?
