Giant 29er wheels

I’ve got an Anthem 29er 1 on order and am wondering if I change the wheels immediately (before I make them properly 2nd hand).

They come with Giants own (P-XC2 rims and Tracker hubs, DT spokes) wheels, which I was thinking of changing to Hope (EVO hubs and Stans crest rims). Anyone got the Giant wheels and care to comment?

No idea on the Giant wheels, why don’t you run them for a while and see how they are – I guess your thinking about 2nd hand prices v new?

I have the EVO/Crest combination I have those on my Niner from JRA – been trouble free

Giant wheel value, no idea afraid, I always seem to undervalue stuff anyway – TBH I’ve had much better luck on Ebay of late selling stuff for far more than I offered on here and never had a sniff…maybe I’ve been lucky

Haven’t really heard much about the Giant wheels, apart from they are a bit heavy and not a proper tubeless set up.

I’d be tempted to use them until they need chucking/replacing unless you’ve got a compelling reason for doing an immediate swap over.

Giant seem to have just started ‘making’ their own wheels (presumably a rebadge job from someone else). Personally it’s not something I’d pay good money for on here or eBay so you might get £100 maybe – just guessing mind and hopefully you’d make more.

Had the same issue, tried selling what are a pretty good and light set of wheels from my Anthem X2 (26) wasnt sure what to ask and no offers were forthcoming so they went on fleabay.

Got £82 which i thought was a bloody bargain, and then had a non paying bidder.

Still have the wheelset now!

Doubt that helps much, but i guess there isnt much market unless it says hope/ZTR/XTR somewhere on them.

To start with strip them down to bare wheels (no QR, tyres etc) and weigh them. Also measure the inner rim width and compare to other wheel sets.

Personally I would ride em until they need replaced (assumning the weight isn’t ridiculous) or keep them as a spare set with some mud tyres or something on. You are unlikely to get a decent amount for them on ebay as people tend to look for Hope Hoops etc rather than OEM wheels and 2nd hand prices will no doubt reflect that.

hmm, yeah that’s what I was worried about really – not being able to sell them for much. Looks like that’ll be the case. Maybe I’ll just try them – has no one got/used any?

THey are a bit heavy (1900g iirc) but the hubs are fine and they convert to tubeless very easily.Might be worth asking to swap at point of purchase and see what deal they’ll offer on the hopes.

They’re fine, a little heavy but pretty bullet proof.

ah, well that sounds like there isn’t too much in it (Hope are around 1700g without valves, tape, etc), so if the Giants are pretty solid as well I think I may stick.

1900g is lighter than a lot of OEM 29ers. How wide are they?
