I’m sure you know that Israel consists of 20% Arab plus other minorities such as the Druze – who have full democratic rights, educational, civil and any other rights
Not true, most obviously in the case of the Law of Return. And Arab residents of Jerusalem are not even allowed citizenship.
in fact Israeli Arabs are over represented in professions such as being pharmacists , doctors & nursing.
Strange, then, that they generally have lower income and fewer years of schooling.
Israel also has no territorial ambitions in Gaza
Puhleez. Stop it. Really.
3TheFlyingOxFull MemberNot true, most obviously in the case of the Law of Return.
Why would a member of of Israel’s 26+% non-Jewish population need to invoke the Right To Return? They’re already citizens.
And Arab residents of Jerusalem are not even allowed citizenship.
Not true, the 1952 Citizenship Law allows them to.
I’m sure you can find plenty of things to bash Israel with that are true. You don’t have to make shit up.

This is from an extreme far-right fascist who claims to be happy being called a fascist:
And not just any extreme far-right fascist, this particular one happens to be Israel’s finance minister, so vital to the regime

They are acting with complete impunity and appear tohave no desire to get the hostages back
From the West Bank
Such a grim story from the Occupied West Bank:
16 year old Bilal was shot dead by Israeli forces outside a hospital in Tubas
After he was killed, some Israelis somehow got his father’s number and started trolling him with abusive messages

And further evidence regarding the treatment of detainees
A new leaked video showed the alleged gang-rape of a Palestinian detainee by Israeli soldiers at the Sde Teiman detention camp. The footage released by Channel 12, taken from evidence used in an investigation on the centre, shows detained Palestinians lying on the floor with their hands and eyes covered. A group of reserve soldiers are seen taking one of the detainees aside, then trying to hide their subsequent actions with riot shields. According to Israeli media, the detainee was hospitalised after the assault with a torn rectum among other injuries. The Israeli military police detained nine soldiers for the alleged rape. The soldiers denied any wrongdoing.

Plenty of other videos of the Israeli snipers high fiving each other as they shoot kids/adults
ernielynchFull MemberI was on the Big Bike Ride for Palestine in London today, during the lunch break we had a speech from a Jewish pro Palestine activist. Among the stuff he said was a comment which I found particularly interesting.
He said that the zionists hadn’t just stolen land from the Palestinians but they had also stolen Jewish identity. As he pointed out there is nothing Jewish about apartheid.
It reminded me of a quote by Gerald Kaufman when he was talking about the then Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon…….“Star of David belongs to all Jews, not to his repulsive government. His actions are staining the Star of David with blood.”
DrJFull MemberBBC4 has a series detailing how the US condones and indeed participates in genocide. One particularly apt episode concerns Darfur. It’s sobering viewing for anyone who imagines that decency and justice will prevail in Gaza.
binnersFull MemberDavid Mencer, the spokesman for the Israeli government presently being interviewed by Mishal Husain on Radio 4, is hosting an absolute masterclass in obnoxious arrogance, bluster, misinformation and lies that is frankly unrivaled by anything I think I’ve ever heard before
Its attempted gaslighting on a truly breathtaking scale
ernielynchFull MemberBeing an Israeli government spokesperson is an extremely skilful job.
“Justifying” what the IDF are doing in Gaza requires the ability to come up with such huge and monumental lies that they will cause people to doubt that anyone could actually lie to such an extent, and so, they will conclude, they must be telling the truth.
There are however limits to just how big these lies can be, and understanding precisely what these limits are is where the skill is.
The previous Israeli government spokesperson Eylon Levy had to be sacked because he got into a spat with David Cameron over ridiculous claims that the IDF was allowing more aid to enter Gaza than was actually needed, when everyone else in the world knew that Palestinians were dying due to lack of food, medicine, and shelter.
A much better lie is that Hamas are stealing all the aid which the IDF is so generously allowing to go through. A lot of gullible people will believe a lie like that, even if only because they want to believe it.
DrJFull MemberWait til you hear Starmer’s latest lie – that it is Iran who are responsible for preventing a ceasefire.
In the end the spokesman/statement/PR thing is irrelevant. Israel will kill who they want, where they want, when they want and nobody will do a damned thing to stop them.

bailsFull MemberThe Israeli military police detained nine soldiers for the alleged rape. The soldiers denied any wrongdoing.
Does that mean they denied the ‘doing’? Or they admitted the ‘doing’, but they just don’t think it was ‘wrong’?

I have just listened to that. Could the utter desperation in David Mencer have been any more obvious? At least he openly admitted that Israel are losing the “media battlefield”, as he called.
Which is ironic when you consider the $billions the Israelis spend on propaganda and how massively successful it has been in the past. They focus so much on global propaganda that the Israelis have even invented a name for it…..”hasbara”
I did particularly like it when David Mencer was told that as an Israeli government spokesman he was there to answer questions, not to attack the questions.
somafunkFull MemberDon’t forget that David Mencer is the former director of the largest foreign policy lobbying group in the UK Labour Party, Labour Friends of Israel and previously worked for a number of Labour MPs.
somafunkFull MemberAn excellent long read in the Guardian on the situation in Israel concerning the dehumanising treatment of Palestinians in Gaza by an ex IDF soldier now historian who recently visited the country

argeeFull MemberThere is no stopping it, this type of event is a daily occurrence https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c985y78d0g1o, not sure why the UN aren’t at least voting on having some type of peacekeeping force in there to stop a lot of the madness, yes i know the US would veto it, but in an election year, put pressure on Biden to actually do that in the face of so much negative press, it just seems that the US are making out they’re against all the nasty stuff, but doing nothing about it.
MSPFull MemberIsrael have been pumping a shitload of money into the US election to unseat democrats who are vocal about Israeli genocide, and supporting pro Israel candidates.
It is a bit of a dilemma for Harris, on the one hand a foreign power investing so much money and effort into affecting the election should be bringing about immediate sanctions. However while that money is being allowed to influence the election then Harris is more likely to lose vital seats, and if Trump wins gaza will cease to exist within the next term IMO.

James O’Brien covered this along with the Israeli protests for allowing prisoners to be abused. It makes you wonder what is happening to 8000+ other prisoners that Israel has rounded up and placed in their jails.
LBC sacked Sangita Myska and served her with a slapp for questioning the narrative espoused by Abu Hyman but I guess that LBC will not/cannot kill off the most popular/listened to LBC presenter

The IDF have now directly killed over 40,000 Palestinians in the last 10 months in Gaza, which is approximately 2% of the population.
Of course the total amount of deaths due to the IDF onslaught is much larger:

In Gaza, Israels dehumanisation of the Palestinians has reached new heights – from Haaretz
somafunkFull MemberIt appears James O’Brien covered this story earlier this morning
ernielynchFull MemberHere is the full version of that article :
These new “dogs” are sent to the tunnels in handcuffs. Cameras are attached to their bodies, and from them one can hear the sound of their frightened breathing.
The process of dehumanization of the Palestinians has reached a new height. Haaretz reported that the IDF senior command knows about the new unit. In the opinion of the army, a dog’s life is worth more than a Palestinian’s. Now we also have the official version.
Israel really is a lawless fascist state.
Anyone from the pro-Israeli camp fancy having a go at defending the IDF’s decision to replace dogs with Palestinians?
I would suggest not using the “untermensch” argument.
ossifyFull MemberThat’s an opinion piece on the main investigation article, which is here:
One (slight) ray of hope is that it seems most of the soldiers involved are not happy about this. Will that lead to anything or will they just keep on doing what their commanders tell them to, regardless of their feelings?
kelvinFull Membernot sure why the UN aren’t at least voting on having some type of peacekeeping force in there to stop a lot of the madness
Who would provide the forces? There is no way Egypt will send their people in.
It’s probably the best path to take at this point, but it’s also an impossible one.
1ernielynchFull MemberUS ambassador ‘appalled’ by Jit riot, calls for perpetrators to be held to account
“These attacks must stop and the criminals be held to account.”
Why are they merely “criminals”? If the perpetrators had been Palestinians defending their land they would have been called terrorists.
And it’s great that the US ambassador is appalled by the terrorist attack on Palestinian civilians in illegal occupied territory, but what is the United States actually going to do to help Palestinians defend themselves against Israeli terrorists?
This sort of shit happens all the time – literally hundreds of Palestinians have been killed by Israeli terrorists in the West Bank in the last year.
DrJFull Memberwhat is the United States actually going to do to help Palestinians defend themselves against Israeli terrorists?
I think you know the answer to this question. It rhymes with “duck call”. Same as they’re doing to prevent children in Gaza being blown to bits.
mrbadgerFree MemberI see reginald hunter has been accused of antisemitism following a not particularly funny joke abouy Israel, and the police are investigating
Excuse my ignorance but does that fit the definition of antisemitism? My understanding of the term was slightly different, but happy to be corrected
mrbadgerFree MemberAh…following up on my last post, I think the antisemitism investigation is more aimed at some follow up comments from hunter and the hounding of 2 audience members. Not the original joke.
ernielynchFull MemberPolice investigating a report of a “hate incident” have said “no crime” was established after two Israeli audience members were reportedly heckled out of Reginald D Hunter’s Edinburgh Fringe show.
A comedian poking fun at Israel is as legitimate as a comedian poking fun at Russia, or the United States, or Britian, or any other country. Only some people take the rather racist attitude that Israel is somehow special.
I am not surprised that the audience booed when a couple of individuals complained that the joke about Israel behaving like an abusive partner wasn’t in their opinion funny.
By all accounts they weren’t even Palestinians which had they been I might have understood their concerns that it was in poor state.
I am not surprised that Hunter suggested that they leave if they didn’t find his comedy funny. Not am I surprised that the police found that no crime.
Unfortunately this nonsense has an effect, Hunter has now had a show cancelled by a theatre and comedians in the future might decide to stay away from ever mentioning Israel. A sad day for comedy and free expression.
