I’m considering getting a Garmin Venture HC which has 24mb of internal memory. I’m wondering if that’s enough for a reasonable amount of topo maps to be loaded – ie it’s not much use if you can only load a tiny area.

Anyone got one of the 24mb Garmins and using topo?

    Thanks

(On topic because I’ll be using it on my bike 🙂 )

I don’t know how big the UK top is, but to give you an idea – I have a topo map of Spain and Portugal that comes in at 700Mb for the lot.

You’d probably be better off with an HCx that has a micro-SD slot.

I just checked on my old eTrex Vista and I appear to have 10 blocks loaded, enough to cover Exmoor and the Quantocks, but I can’t remember if that uses the whole 24mb.

Junkyard – brilliant – that explains perfectly. Looks like 24mb will be plenty for what I use it for.
