    this is my first heart rate monitor and was just wondering what is the pen type object that comes with it for?

    To remove the backing plate to replace the battery, maybe?

    I don’t recall having any “pen type device” arrive with my two.

    Yeah, it’s a screwdriver to remove the back plate when you need to change the battery. There are 4 almost microscopic screws to remove.

    ah thanks for the replies (my eyes are getting old as i thought it might be a screwdriver but couldn’t see the end of the driver very well).

    I had one of those, and ended up sending it straight back as it was intermittent in picking up my signal.
