Game of Thrones Season 6

Reflecting on it this morning I can’t help but think if I was John I might have dropped in when they were talking about armies “how many giants do you have?” but mostly that would have been a lot easier with a dragon.
jonnytheleytherFree MemberSo who’s the new bad guy going to be? Time for the the Night King in E10?
beanumFull MemberThere are some good points in this review of episode 9. They make special mention of the current teleportation of characters around the storyline, in particular Theon and Yara’s journey from the Iron Islands to Mereen… 🙄
honeybadgerxFull MemberThe mention of ghost above got me thinking, I.e. where the hell was he? Surely you’d want him along on a massive super important battle?! Also, I did feel sorry for the actor that plays Reckon… yay, I’m back in it again! Oh…
GrahamSFull Member“how many giants do you have?”
“Don’t worry though, to keep it fair we won’t bother giving our giant any armour or even a weapon”
The mention of ghost above got me thinking, I.e. where the hell was he?
He was left at Castle Black. The direwolves may be powerful but he’d be bugger all use in a massive battle – without armour he’d die in the first hail of arrows or be impaled on a spear wall.

Agreed direwolves are great for personal protection and general badassery but would be shite in a battle. Might take out a couple of infantry but would definitely be done in by arrows.
bongohoohaaFree MemberWas I the only one shouting ‘Zig Zag, Rickon! Zig Zag!’ When Bolton told him to run back to his brother.

Rickon’s wolf wasn’t even that good at personal protection. Seeing as he allowed Rickon to be captured. For some reason the direwolves went from being badass to the guy in the red jumper on Star Trek. Would rather have one of Bolton’s dogs.
s there any legal way to watch GoT without giving money to the Murdoch empire? I had a quick look at HBO Now but that seems to be US only.
Cheapest legal way to do it, is is ask someone nicely who has sky to let you use one of their SkyGo slots. I use my brothers’, and watch via the PS4 app. Great quality, and means I personally give Sky naff all.
FuzzyWuzzyFull MemberLol, no you weren’t. Great episode but some bits were a bit contrived, like the arrow scene.
mattyfezFull MemberI feel the pacing is a bit off, theres been some slower episodes and they could have easily got two out of this one.
And what the hell was John snow thinking, walking into an obvious trap and abandoning his strategy, even after being told it was a trap by sansa.
I also thought it was a bit lord of the rings esque when sansa turned up with little finger.. on the seventh day,at dawn look to the east..
bongohoohaaFree MemberI did wonder why none of the ships which had catapults, didn’t think to fire a shot at one of the dragons? Would have taken them out I reckon.
Maybe they’re not that accurate.
And what the hell was John snow thinking, walking into an obvious trap and abandoning his strategy, even after being told it was a trap by sansa.
I believe it has been established that Jon Snow’s knowledge is somewhat lacking.
mikewsmithFree MemberI did wonder why none of the ships which had catapults, didn’t think to fire a shot at one of the dragons?
None of the catapults looked that manouverable to get them round to face the dragons, that and a bit of WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t think they exprected them to grow much.

Partly I don’t think Jon thought he could win, go out trying and all that, there has been a sense of being resigned since he came back. Not feeling himself maybe? Might just need a good woman to cheer him up a bit
perchypantherFree MemberI believe it has been established that Jon Snow’s knowledge is somewhat lacking.
😆

I was also getting a bit stressed whwn he was galloping toward ramsay, thinking those burning crosses in the field are range markers for the archers you fool!
P-JayFree MemberThe “Game of Thrones Updates” channel usually has the entire episode in 5 to 10 minute chunks within a few hours of it being out.
I bet that really helps with the flow of the story 😉
Fantasic episode, a real spectacle, I think next weeks might be even better though – 90mins (inc ads) with lots of story to cover.

Guess time…
The North gets to have a rest
Cersi losese her shit big time
Jamie needed to sort things out
Euron still looking for trees
Tidy up for Sam getting to do his thing
Bronn says bugger this for a laugh and heads back to the Dorne strip clubGrahamSFull MemberIs it just me who can’t take Euron seriously because they keep thinking he is Rufus Hound after a bad night out?
I bet that really helps with the flow of the story
The clips overlap by a second and usually end at the end of a scene, so it’s pretty easy to cue them all up in order in 8 or 9 separate tabs and then watch it right through. I’d say it is less harmful to the flow than ad breaks and a lot easier than faffing with torrents.
theotherjonvFree MemberI was thinking zig zags, and then i thought that once he got a reasonable distance away (say 200 yards, which while running for you life would be say 30 seconds) – then he could turn round and just wait. Every time Bolton fired an arrow at him, just take a couple of steps to the side. Then turn and run a bit further and repeat.
Or just run in a straight line but randomly vary your speed, having to shoot arrows to a distance in a time to coincide with Rickon’s arrival at that point was also avoidable by varying the time Rickon arrived.
Frankly, he made his half-brother look like the clever one, and got what he deserved.
bongohoohaaFree MemberFrankly, he made his half-brother look like the clever one, and got what he deserved.
I would say Darwinism in action, but given the current revolving door GoT has in relation to death, I 100% expect the non-zigzagging Rickon to be back walking in a straight line by the end of the week.
…that and Dany making a dramatic entrance/exit (delete as applicable, but one must happen at least week as per the contract)
GrahamSFull MemberA few people complained about the Rickon running straight thing, but in defence of the show:
a) Rickon had been Ramsay’s prisoner for a while. He’s likely been tortured, starved and beaten so probably wasn’t thinking too clearly.
b) Ramsay had a 1000 odd archers standing right next to him so he has a good backup plan if Rickon gets a bit swervy.
Still, you’d think he could have used those big burning crosses for a bit of cover eh?
I’d like to have seen Rickon do something. Maybe he could have snatched Ramsay’s infamous back dagger and tried to threaten Ramsay with it. Ramsay would draw a sword, tell Rickon to run for it and then kill him with an arrow.
But later, when Jon is charging at him with the shield, Ramsay would reach for his dagger and fumble as he realised it was gone.
bongohoohaaFree MemberI guess that’s the issue. When the show wants you dead, it’s usually quick and done.
Rickon, Direwolves etc.
…but if they want you to live. Then a way will be found.
Ayra, Jon, Hound, Mountain.
Honestly, Ayra’s bit from last week still bugs me.
johnx2Free Member…good episode apart from some plank vs plank acting in the Sansa/Snow head to head.
I’m going to miss Ramsey and his Marty Feldmanesque eyes, and general delight in being worse than anyone else can imagine until they realise what’s happening.
Anyway, my prediction, not one I make with any relish given how little I like seeing Sansa clump about the screen torturing vowels, is that a long running part of the story has been her loss of innocence, from the Hound, pointing out knights are trained killing machines pace fairytales, through Ramsay’s perversity to Littlefinger’s mind-games etc etc. So now she’s summoning armies, anticipating Ramsay’s moves and killing him in a way he’d be proud of.
So one of Ramsey’s last lines was that he was in her head, and I recon we may see more of this… (unfortunately)
gonzyFree MemberDisappointed Ghost didnt eat him.
ghost has better taste! 😆
And what the hell was John snow thinking, walking into an obvious trap and abandoning his strategy, even after being told it was a trap by sansa.
to be fair even though he had a plan and he knew Ramsay had Rickon…he probably didnt expect Ramsay to cut Rickon loose on the battle field for a bit of live target practice…and seeing as he was the only legitimate heir to Winterfell…he felt obliged to try and save him even though he knew that doing so would render his battle plan useless
I 100% expect the non-zigzagging Rickon to be back walking in a straight line by the end of the week.
i doubt it…they recovered his body and we see Jon instruct them that he is to be buried in the crypt next to his father
what i dont get is why didnt Sansa the daft cow not tell Jon that she had called in the cavalry?? could have saved many of their own fighters including Wun Wun.
dantsw13Full Member#Continuity Alert!!!!!
When Sansa says to Ramsey “You said you haven’t fed them for 7 days”, that phrase was said after Sansa left the Parley, so she wouldn’t have known it.

That’s it. I am done with this show. They’ve killed the realism 🙁
dantsw13Full MemberI only mention it as my wife (who writes as s hobby) said “Chekhovs Gun” as soon as the hounds were mentioned. It’s lazy continuity to have Sansa quote him when she wasn’t there.
YoKaiserFree MemberThe Rickon death was touted last week as a fan theory pretty much exactly as it happened. An interesting theory that I did hear was that Ramsay would capture Jon snow and burn him at which point his targaryen genes would show themselves.
Would be good to see Arya and the Hound meet up next week and see whatever political plays will be put in place for next season.

Sorry, I was just joking. We need more expressive emotes, I was going for faux outrage while winking.
packerFree MemberAm I the only one who found this episode rather disappointing?
Of course the action was great, but the storytelling is really losing it’s edge and the writing is getting very lazy. IMHO.

Isn’t that making a lot of assumptions though?
Like did Sansa just nip down there and find the hounds ready to attack, or was it organised with some discussion between other people – e.g. someone who did hear him say it?A bit like some people talking about the teleporting – it happens quickly on screen, but we don’t really know how long has passed – it could have been weeks of Jon trying to gather the houses together.

Of course the action was great, but the storytelling is really losing it’s edge and the writing is getting very lazy. IMHO. I agree that it’s playing more to a general audience. Not quite as satisfying for me.

Get your CV sent it, that would have been class. When Jon Snow looked away from Ramsay to look at Sansa both myself and my girlfriend were shouting “DONT LOOK AT HER, KILL HIM” both of us sure Jon Snow was going to get a knife in the ribs.
theotherjonvFree MemberWhen Sansa says to Ramsey “You said you haven’t fed them for 7 days”, that phrase was said after Sansa left the Parley, so she wouldn’t have known it
She was still listening. Women do that. Even when not in the same county my wife just knows what i’ve been up to.
GrahamSFull MemberSo one of Ramsey’s last lines was that he was in her head, and I recon we may see more of this… (unfortunately)
He said he was part of her – perhaps she is pregnant with his child? She does like a long covering cloak.
Ramsay would capture Jon snow and burn him at which point his targaryen genes would show themselves.
I don’t think the Targaryen’s are meant to be generally fire proof. Dany’s brother didn’t seem to deal with heat too well.
he is to be buried in the crypt next to his father
Shouldn’t they be burning the bodies? Maybe Rickon will return as a wight zombie next to a headless Ned Stark 😀
It’s lazy continuity to have Sansa quote him when she wasn’t there.
Meh – not unreasonable to assume that Sansa asked Jon what was said at the parley after she flounced off.
we don’t really know how long has passed – it could have been weeks of Jon trying to gather the houses together.
Yep, it was probably meant to be, but in previous seasons they would have let it take some time – not just do a quick montage and then jump cut to the next plot point.

Must admit I’m liking Sansa’s transformation into ruthlessness.
