wow Lady Gresley your so cool what was that cheesy song about about ive never been to me ? 1970’s syle story song

That’ll be ‘I’ve Been to Halifax, but I’ve never been to Leeds’ by Charlene.

She recorded a version with alternative lyrics, which I believe was released outside Yorkshire –

Not the usual choice for an 11 year old… 2 all time classic DnB tracks..

(Bought both at the same time – so they’re both my ‘first’)

Kids these days only have Pendulum to get excited about, poor things.

I would love to say New orders 12″ Blue Monday or something else cool like a Smiths single but it was this…..

That Madness pic disc was the was the first single I got given and I have still got it. The first record I bought was the Art of Noise – Who’s afraid of the art of noise.

It was weird but had been sampled by so many other people that I kind of forgot how good the album is until I got a turntable again.

First one I bought was Aha and Cry Wolf. The first one I had was Do they know its christmas. They were both 7″ singles. The first 12″ I bought was Blue Monday but that was about 8 years ago. 😀 And it cost me about £15 from Spillers in Cardiff.

Gangsters by The Specials, which also happened to be the first record released on the 2 Tone label.

    I am that cool.

Roxane by The Police. Even though I bought it a few years after release. It’s still one of my all time favourites..

Adam and the Ants, Stand and Deliver.

    Same here..
Closely followed by the album, kings of the Wild Frontier.
Second single – Hazel O’Connor – Will You, followed closely by the album Breaking Glass.

After that I cannot recall any.

First CD – no real idea – only that I bought a bunch from Woolies, circa 1996 – before I even had a CD player…

    Edit –

    New orders 12″ Blue Monday

    – i had a copy of that, the limited edition version that was in a cover like the old floppy disks used to have – it got left at / lost at a house party – white vinyl version of White Lines went the same way….. 😥

First I remember consciously buying with my own pocket money, I think, was Bad News.
Had a Wombles record when I was about 5 though.

Why buy records when there was non stop tunes on Caroline and Laser558?

First Album – Physical Graffiti, Led Zep. I had one with the cover that you could move the sleeve in and out and it changed the windows to reveal the bands name and album title.
Then I bought Van Halen 1 and that got worn out I played it so much.. then if memory serves I bought Tobruk’s “Wild on the Run” (or something like that) Then a whole era of Hair Metal ensued and there were far too many records bought…

I’d like to say that it was something cool by Ray Charles or someone of that ilk, but in fact it was ‘I wanna hold your hand’, Beatles (1963?)

This mental weirdness it seems somehow made it onto my first turntable and onto heavy rotation (must have been pinched from my dad)

Explains my penchant for 70’s funk and Moog’s

First I remember being bought for me

    and

First I bought with my own cash

My ol’ man used to buy me records – T Rex ‘Ride A White Swan’ was the first.
My big bro had all the decent punk singles so I nicked em off him until I bought my first – 999 ‘Emergency’.

Still got all the T Rex singles, but not the 999 one.
