MrsSB and I went away to Lancashire a few weeks ago and I had grilled kippers for breakfast which were amazing.

Fast forward to this week and she was out for the evening so I had the opportunity to make another of my favourite ever meals… Kegeree.

Just realised that, other than my other favourite – sausages, I seem to have a thing about having fish for breakfast!

What’s top of your brekky list given the time and choice?

Think we did this not too long ago, but…

Tinned mackerel in spicy tomato sauce (Princes – not as keen on other brands) on toasted Warburtons seeded batch. Black pepper and Hendo’s or Lea & Perrins.

If I don’t have the spicy (just tomato sauce) version, then maybe a splash of Tabasco

Smashed Avo on toasted seeded sourdough with a poached egg on top

Often do the tinned sardine thing for lunch

If I’m in a hotel and there is a buffet breakfast, then the answer is ‘the lot’

Brunch wise I do like eggs Benedict.

Watching my son play football on Saturday morning then a bacon roll and a sweet cup of tea goes down best.

Often at the weekend I’ll make pancakes for breakfast, the kids love it.

I’m partial to a croissant with apricot jam.

But the correct answer is buttered toasted crumpets.

Smoked salmon or gravlax and scrambled eggs on toasted grainy bread with porage, a nice fruit and veg smoothie and tea.

Seahouses Smoked Haddock with poached egg.

Smoked in a 180 year old smoke house.

Since ive been here in southern Germany im really enjoying a Fleischkäse in a Linzgau Brötchen – essentially a steaming hot slice of meat grilled on the edges in a freshly baked bread bun similar to sour dough with some sweet mustard. Hits like a bacon sandwich with brown but keeps you full all day.  Apologies to all vegetarians/vegans out there.

Shakshuka. Roll and square sausage. Spicy mushrooms on sourdough. Big bowl of porridge with banana and golden syrup….
List is endless, breakfast is the best feed of the day!

If I’m staying somewhere nice and kedgeree is on the menu, then I’m having that – no debate.

But it rarely is, so I’m more likely to order an avocado and poached eggs on sourdough type of thing, probably with middle eastern flavours.

At home, my current quick and tasty go-to brekkie is scrambled eggs with pastrami instead of smoked salmon – on nice toast. Give it a try.

Tinned mackerel in spicy tomato sauce (Princes – not as keen on other brands)

Have you tried the Lidl one? I really like it.

A Marlboro Red and a mug of strong black coffee.

I’ve not had it for 27 years.

Jamon Iberico on toasted pan rustico drizzled with olive oil and a bit of mushed up tomato. Together with a double espresso and followed by churros and chocolate.

Best served at Cafe Azul in Tarifa, setting me up for a day’s windsurfing.

Full English.  I’m not even that fussy about what exact combo I get

    given the time and choice?

Time?  I’m not cooking it, cafe only

This… I’d love a full English more often, but there’s no way I’m cooking it myself 🙂

Usual breakfasts are overnight oats (yoghourt, apple juice, frozen red fruit and oats; left overnight in the fridge) or something like guacamole with scrambled eggs on toast. Beans on toast also an option.

Jordans Super Nutty with Yeo Valley Honey Greek Style Yoghurt – I say favourite as it’s really sorted out my stomach and digestive system.

A small bowl of roasted jumbo oats, chopped banana, whatever other fruit is to hand (raspberries, blueberries, sultanas (soaked overnight obvs), dates, etc) covered in Greek-style yoghurt, assorted nuts and seeds, and a small squeeze of honey. Sometimes chia seeds if you want to spend the rest of the day with a toothpick. Mix thoroughly and shovel in. Breakfast of the Gods.

Takes 60s to make and knocks breakfast cereals into a cocked hat. Keeps you going until dinner.

Boxing day as a kid, my breakfast was leftover trifle, happy times (my mom made me trifle for Christmas as I was an awkward bugger who didn’t like dried fruit).

Last night’s leftover Lamb Tikka Dopiaza.

Failing that, Cumberland sausages, eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms.

    Failing that…porridge with berries added.

22+ years ago, it used to be 2 Regal King size and a very large mug of tea with 3 sugars in. Glad I saw sense in the end (laughing emoji)

Kegeree is a dinner time meal for me.

Give me a buffet or a cooked breakfast at a nice hotel – The Pig do a great one, Oku in Ibiza’s breakfast was also fantastic.  Nice fresh fruit, pastries, good sausages and bacon, sourdough, homemade jams mmmmmm.

Big fan of a simple pair of soft boiled eggs peeled and popped into the gobhole intact (one at a time) – squooshy yolk FTW. 🙂

Other than that, can’t beat big fat slices of bacon between slices of fresh white bread. 🙂

I’m not sure what to make of that @tomhoward given that it appears to have a muscular right arm at the centre 🙂

Scrambled egg on toast if I’m making it myself. Sausage and egg sarnie if I’ve got a reason to pack extra calories in that day.

When I’m out for breakfast, I like a full english, but also love a yank breakfast, pancakes, waffles or french toast, with eggs hash browns and them funny little sausages, bacon like fine china and unlimited filter coffee.

Don’t really like fish, other than chippy fish, maybe because I’m from the midlands.

Smoked salmon and scrambled egg on a toasted muffin. I cut the smoked salmon up and cook it with the scrambled egg so it’s lightly poached. Bloody delicious!

We do have a full English every Sunday morning on the general principle that it’s rude not too 😀

Kegeree is my absolute fave. the only cafe i know that served it down here (brighton) shut years ago sadly.

a lost classic. I`ve ever made it – but my mum used to do an amazing one.

I rarely eat breakfast (I normally just have a couple of coffees) but if there is a full English on offer I’ll have that.

Fish for breakfast is a no no for me.  Usual is a nutty granola with full fat milk – the latter a determined indulgence in a world of sensible eating.  When on holiday and it’s available, I am partial to Eggs Benedict

Kippers are great but the bones are a faff. Plus they stink the house out for hours!

Is that the shabby hut in the Old Town? We used to holiday in Whitby when we were kids and always brought them back and the house would stink of them – and it got worse when microwaves were invented and my dad insisted on cooking them in the damn thing!

    Guilty pleasure in our household.

A decent full cooked for me: sausage, bacon, black pudding, haggis, hash browns, tattie scone, grilled tomato, beans.

Ideally. 2 thick slice of Lorne sausage, 2 slice of black pudding, 3 fried eggs, and a double loin chop

A pint of full fat milk and a coffee.

I’m partial to a croissant slice horizontally into 2 halves and toasted served with butter and some type of jam.

Never really thought of toasting croissant till I had one sat here(Mojacar Pueblo)IMG_0052

Some cracking meals in here, I’m going to throw a random on in:

Old school Bacon & Beans boil in the bag, superseded by the less excellent all day breakfast.

The beans had an irradiated glow and the bacon was salty as hell which made it mandatory to wash it down with a mug of hot tea.

    Bloody delicious.

Yep, that’s the one – Henrietta Street I think, just down from the Abbey.  You can often see them hanging in the smokehouse.

They are very nice but the smell after cooking can linger for days!
