I think as the other poster mentioned, by convention the drivers get a chance to give the place back prior to the stewards getting involved. I’ve never heard anything like that during a red flag however.

Hamilton swapped to medium at the first restart I think. He’d already done hard under the safety car.

Verstappen put hards on for the first restart as he’d only used mediums.

But a RB in clear air on mediums or a Merc in dirty air on hards – which uses tyres faster?

Hamilton has to keep enough pressure on now to burn through Max’s tyres.

Assuming no more SC, Merc have this as Max’s tyres won’t last
