    can you use shimano hollowtech 2 external BB cups(say 105 or XT) for a truvativ road crankset??

    No, Truvative in their wisdom use a smaller non drive bearing.

    The only things that will fit other than Truvative are the Hope one with the reducer kit fitted. I guess however that maybe the Hope reducer kit could be used to shim down a shimano bearing possibly?
