Underworld’s first ‘proper’ album as an electronic dance act – Dubnobasswithmyheadman.

I don’t feel too old as I only discovered them when I first heard ‘Rez’ in a Chamonix bar around ’97ish

    Still a great listen;

30!! Blimey. I was a student then and Tomato (design group) gave us a lecture and as Tomato also included Underworld they played some upcoming music for us. Never heard of Underworld at that point…. but it stuck with me. Good stuff.

The live build ups to Cowgirl were epic! Seems so long ago 😔

Still one of my favourite albums. Soundtrack to a great period in my life.

I’d just arrived back in London after two years in Sydney on a musical diet consisting pretty much of grunge and more grunge. My old housemate played it to me and it blew me away. Being from Romford it had a certain resonance. Still sounds amazing.

    Got that on vinyl-sublime.

This is great of you have never heard it before, it really captures the time. Also it has the politest bollocking you will ever hear.

    !!!!

I feel old. Dubnobasswithmyheadman, though, does not.

One of my fave live experiences was Underworld at Homelands… One of my most disappointing was the 20? or 25th? Anniversary tour for dubnobass, where it wasn’t even Underworld – Karl backed by Dave Clark, a proper going-through-the-motions exercise. Put me off album anniversary tours forever!
Great album though, still love it 😀

One of the two best dance music albums for me, along with the Brown album by orbital.

I was at the Zap in Brighton for the launch tour, but our refreshments were a bit too strong and we spent most of the night laying in a pile of coats 😄

Cowgirl and Rez were anthems at my regular club S,L&M at the Soundshaft in London.

    😀

Embarrassed to say can’t say I know it unfortunately. I’ll be surprised though if when I give it a listen its entirely unrecognisable.

it’s such a good album, I got into it via some digweed Northern Exposure and never looked back.  At the time pre social media it felt like you were the only one in the world who had discovered it, lovely feeling

I had a mix tape with dirty epic on it for driving to work. I cant drive down that road without hearing it in my head

It’s a regular for me when on the turbo. Definitely helps with zone 2!

Met Darren Emerson on holiday last year, our daughters were in the face paint queue together. Spent the week hanging out and talking music, he’s just a really friendly bloke

Second best to Leftism from Leftfield for me, both true albums which was rare for dance acts then.

I’ve seen Leftfield twice this year and Orbital once, hoping to see Underworld when they tour this new album.

Now look! I wanted to come on here and say how I was a massive Underworld fan, but recently they’ve gone really bland and after seeing their disappointing performance on the 2nd Toughest Going-through-the-motions Tour and that bland Drift stuff they did…  I am no longer interested in them…

but I’ve got Strawberry Hotel on the phones now and it’s great! I want it LOUDER! Damn your eyes RustyNissan!

    New album is ace.

Not much great music this year for me.

Public Service Broadcasting album is good.
