DT Swiss 350 Torque Caps stuck…

I’ve just picked up a bargain wheel and it’s the first time I’ve had torque caps

It’s a DT 350 centrelock hub, and the disc-side cap has to be removed to install the lockring, but it’s stuck fast to the rest of the end cap

This also means that, now I’ve popped the whole end cap off, I can’t reinstall the end cap cover properly as it’s hidden by the torque cap

Any ideas? Or am I misunderstanding something?

I spoke too soon — a couple of s**t plastic wilko vices have got the TC off the main end cap (I need better tools)

Now though, I have to work out how to reinstall the end cap cover without the DT Swiss tool…

At 3:03, the mechanic effortlessly pops the torque cap off from the main end cap

Mine however did not do that, so I had to remove the whole end cap section and get a pair of vices to separate them

Reinstalling the end cap isn’t trivial though, it isn’t a simple press-fit like Hope’s. There is a cover that looks to need a special tool to hammer into place, kind of like the seal on a Pro4 freehub

I’ve only come across this video as I have a front hub to convert to torque cap and haven’t yet done it

Very carefully is the answer. It’s easy to damage them.

Proceed with caution, those skinny washer things aren’t tough. I use a plastic cap from a bottle of oil that happens to be the right size and tap it with a mallet. The proper removal and fitting tools are a ridiculous price.

FYI, the bottle top from coop own brand soy sauce is a perfect fit

As for the torque cap, it wouldn’t go back on, so I removed the rubber washer and it slides on fine

What a total faff, centrelock hub issue I guess, is this why Shimano hubs don’t have a torque cap version. 6 bolt hubs rule.

No torqee caps for Shimano hubs as its a Rockshox/SRAM thing, Shhmano more closely aligned with Fox.
