    hi all

spec’ing out my new hardtail, and trying to decide between a normal seatpost or dropper, will be used for mainly singletrack, no big jumps.

never used a dropper on a hardtail, any suggestions to if it’s worth it, or should I just stick to a standard one?

    TIA

why does it make a difference if its a hardtail?

Do it, it’ll change the way you ride.

More usefull on a HT IMO.

If you already drop your seatpost now, then yes. If you don’t ever drop your seatpost, then start dropping it!

I agree, with a hardtail you get bounced about more so it’s nice to be able to drop the saddle and lower you centre of gravity to suck up the bumps.

definitely yes. a hardtail pedals better, so it is worth having your seat post nice and high to make the most of that. which will mean you will want to be able to get it out of your way when it starts smacking you in the ass when it gets rocky.

    so you should buy one

Genuine quick q and no hijack intended – do m/any of you who use droppers on a HT drop the seat over just 20-50yds or so of really rough trail?

Interesting point. I’d only ever considered one for trails with ‘proper’ downhill sections or rolling tech trails.

Ive got a dropper and now find I drop it for all sorts of bits of the trail. Irrespective of the length.

Basically if dropping it means I ride if faster / safer or makes it more fun, then I drop it.

That can happen for scary DH bits, techy bits, jumpy bits or even very twisty bits where tipping the bike over to corner faster is eaiser with a low saddle.

Its a remote dropper, so you can have it up/down in less than a second. Therefore you can really drop for just 10 yards.

Once you get one you will wonder why you spent so long without one.

Jameso, one of the nice things about having an uppy-downy post with a bar-mounted control is that you can drop the saddle just for any bits that need it, rather than having to either run it dropped for long periods where you’re pedalling because of a short technical section or have it too high for a techy bit because there’s pedally bits before and/or after it.

Seems Gravity Dropper gets a load of votes for reliability. Also one of the few choices if you happen to have a 27.2 seatpost size.

I’ve got one on my 456 and I love it 🙂

I have a Gravity dropper on Dialled PA, well worth it! 🙂

Here you go. GD on a 456 Summer Season, well worth it. I’ve only had to replace the remote cable in over 12 months of use,no problems apart from that. 😉
