I thought of something a bit different that might be a bit fun. Something along the lines of the photo threads.

Redraw the photograph below in any style, any medium either on the computer or paper then scanned in.

Make a suggestion for the following weeks draw off.

Anyway, hopefully a bit of fun when your bored.

for chists's sake, I'm halfway through a serious pencil drawing and you come along and beat me to it!

And it's way better than mine is.

Missed that bit. How about 'Autumn'? Plenty of scope in there.

Good effort Militant 7/10, slightly darker on the pupil and I'd have awarded 8/10.

@miliatnt

tidy.

Autumn sounds goods if the masses say so. Post a picture for us all. Say Friday onwards.

Pencil sketch. Then couloured in with Derwent Aquatones and pentel brush pens.

Shall I post something next Friday in an Autumn theme as Miliatant wants ?

Excellent work, Red Thunder, but your frog looks like it's missing a butt.

More leaves, maybe?

Other than that, bravo sir!

Oh nice! Your's looks more like a frog. Mine is distinctly toady...

I was thinking about 'Autumn' as a theme, rather than a specific photo. Just a thought.

The frogs butt is missing in the original so Reds picture doesnt need 'fixing'

Love all the pics tbh, beautiful artwork by all, shows how we all see the same thing in different ways.

Best thread of the week!

Hey, it wasn't a criticism, just an observation. I wondered: 'that's beautiful, but where's the frog's butt? That's all. Sheesh.

Oh, and without meaning to give my secret STW identity away, I may well be Brian Sewell - which officially makes me right in all art-related threads.

Red Thunder, I've said it before and I'll say it again: cool picture, dude. 8)

@militant

A specific photo gives us all a single reference. So we can see all our interpretations.

Lets see your Mono Lisa copy then

why would i waste time copying an already existing image? i can understand drawing from a 3d sculpture as that's going to help your visual and spatial awareness but not from a photograph of a painting.

did plenty of drawing from life/still life/architecture at art college years ago but never from a photograph, maybe they teach drawing differently these days.

stop squeazing your balls quite so tightly as you type Mr smith.. your teeth might gnash less..

how do you propose that we change the format of this light hearted thread to bring it more into line with your expectations..?

You could draw the frog eating a cake - the cake, being a life sketch, compensating for the photographic nature of said frog.

Or we could just wee in your shoes. The choice is yours. 8)

Doesn't REALLY matter what stimulus you draw from. Drawing is an eye-brain-hand skill and you can place the emphasis in whatever aspect of that you want to.

Drawing has different purposes. If you want to use it to 'accurately' depict reality (an impossible aim) then observational drawing from real objects is obviously where you develop your skills.

In its purest sense though, drawing is making marks on a surface. To do this in an interesting and visually exciting way it really doesn't matter whether you draw from imagination, a photograph or reality.
