Until the end of eternity one would assume? 🙂

How many regenerations have we got left?

Do keep up at the back!

Yes, I forget that some of you consider Northerners and Scots to be a minority group.

    LOVE the cat idea !

Oh yeah, I’ll get me scarf.
    🙂

I was probably asleep by that point.
Never clicked with MS or the overblown story lines.

I gave up on most of that period tbh.
Loved stuff like The Crimson Horror though, very well done.

It’s basic SF aimed at kids.

It’s basic SF aimed at families (these days, anyway).

can the next Dr Who be female, or gay, or ethnic, in a wheelchair, just anything not an able-bodied middle aged heterosexual white dude.

The introduction of Missy is a double-edged sword here. On the one hand, it’s set precedence that a Time Lord’s gender can change; on the other, the fact that they’ve just done it probably means that they’re unlikely to do it again for a while. I can’t envisage them making both the Doctor and the Master female at the same time, and Michelle Gomez is so deliciously batshit that I can’t see her going anywhere any time soon either.

Ten was a bit orientation-fluid under RTD, remember the whole thing with Jack Harkness? And Idris Elba was in the running for The Doctor at one point (I’ve half a memory that he was actually offered it and turned it down).

TBH, I think the next Doctor should be whoever’s right for the role, regardless of gender / skin colour / etc; picking someone because they tick a demographic would be a mistake.

Though, given that the last two regenerations expressed surprise at having teeth and legs, a female regeneration has the potential to be hilarious. (-:

But once my kid grew out of it, I stopped watching it…

Good for you. Why are you reading a Doctor Who thread then?

Same reason IdleJon and Bikebouy are I suppose. Curiosity; boredom.

I grew up watching it, still watch it with the kids, am curious about why people think it’s so good when I should love it and don’t. (I love SF of all descriptions, always have. Dr Who does nothing for me.)

    Oh, that was genius!

Davros at his darkest, with some very good unexpected twists.

That was excellent tonight, I’m not sure whether to like our loathe Missy, either way she gives it another interesting twist.

Missy is too good she is almost the lead of the show.

Was that not always the role of the Master?

Sometimes they remember it’s not a grown up show and remove subtlety to ensure that younger viewers get it without parents/siblings explaining it.

    Ok, so it’s a panto. I get that 😆

No, Ok I don’t want to de-rail the convo’ but if it’s for younger viewers, why is it on gone 7pm in the evening?

    That was a bit good!

In an event horizon kinda way

Little nods to Alien 3 too bizarrely.

That’s Michelle Gomez for you. “The madness of Queen Sue”.

Some of us can afford the upgrade.

Like that quote. The Master being female is working out very nicely indeed.

    I liked that.

Bit weak at the end, but a decent story.
Liked the Alien/Predator references, loved the rubber suit, wobbly set and scale models.
    🙂

Genuinely scary in places and a couple of the base crew characters deserve to stick around a bit longer.

    Liking Capaldi.
The odder he gets, the more he suits the role.

As plots go, it made less and less sense as it went on.

Great new ‘monster’ though, and Capaldi is ace.

Dr Who in the usual shocker of a storyline. Time traveller can get away with anything, it seems. Liked the mini lecture at the start explaining how the story would be resolved before it even got under way. And yes, I did google it.
