Don't Buy Off This Van Dealer

derek123Free Member
Hi
I just wanted to share my experience of a garage; I had the miss fortune of buying a van from.
The Dealer isO. LEE COMMERCIALS LIMITED
Unit 3
Millrace Road Willowholme Ind Est
Carlisle
Cumbria
CA2 5RS
07564 455697The dealer trades on eBay motors, I purchased a 07 Vivaro swb, it was sold with FSH and six months warranty.
I was told when I bought the van the service history would follow as the lease company who had owned the van had not passed it on yet, so off I went with my new 7k van, 5 days later the engine management light came on, I took it to a specialist and they diagnosed a faulty injector and advised me it would be £300-£700 depending if it needed to be drilled out. I called O Lee Commercials and told them of the problem, they said to go ahead we will sort it out after.
So I had it repaired and serviced as at that point I didn’t know when it had last been done. It cost £734, most of it was the injector cost.
I called O Lee commercials and told them, he had excuse after excuse why he shouldn’t pay the costs, in the end he agreed to pay£250 towards the repair. (It wasn’t covered by the warranty) then its took a further 3 weeks of badging using 8 different phones as he wouldn’t answer my calls!!!
I finally got the money after telling him he had an obligation under the sales of goods act to pay…
It still took 7 more days to hit my account……
Now I have got more issues with the van, a wheel bearing has failed and the hand brake light on the dash isn’t coming on, the wiper motor needs replacing and the back door handle won’t work…. Plus some brake pipes need replacing and discs and pads need replacing, I can except the last two as it’s a used van, but I have now received a letter from the warranty company informing me that the policy has now been cancelled as the supplying dealer hasn’t made payment!!! And would you believe it he’s not answering his phone, yet still has lots of vans (VW included) on eBay motors for sale….
So no warranty and still no service history and now I’ll be at least £1k out of pocket for repairs in only 3 months.
I just hope someone who was going to buy one of his vans thinks twice after reading this.
Thanks
DerekdeepreddaveFree MemberI’m close to Carlisle and was tempted to pop round re a T5 but now probably won’t. It’s easy to say I know but I’d expect all paperwork and the warranty to be in my hands before I handed over the cash. I’m sure 2nd hand van/car dealers get lots of hassle but there’s a good way to deal with customers, even if your news will disappoint them, and a less than good way. This seems an example of a less than good way. Hope once you’ve had that work done it runs without problems for a good few miles 🙂
derek123Free MemberDon’t think so, its a 3 hour drive and I don’t think I’ll get any where with them, just want to try and stop someone else getting caught out.
derek123Free MemberPleased you didn’t, they look great, mine looks mint, fully colour coded, spoiler, side skirts, great looking alloys, but its a lot of cash and total rubbish service too.
CheesybeanZFull Memberhttp://www.cumbria.gov.uk/tradingstandards/
have you taked to Cumbrian trading standards .rootFree MemberIf you think you are going to need to use the warranty then buying it from somewhere 3 hours away is bound to cause problems. Sometimes its worht paying slightly more for one a bit local if going via a dealer.
Persoanlly I wouldn’t have handed any cash over without seeing all the docs either.
CheesybeanZFull MemberI’ve found a polite phone call to the lease company can get the service history emailed .
derek123Free MemberHi
looked for ages local, but couldn’t find any which had the look! lesson learnt, don’t buy something on looks alone, I tried going direct to the lease company as they are down as past owner but I keep getting knocked back and told to contact the dealer I bought it off, even when I explain the problems with the dealer….rickonFree MemberI think if anyone is reading this thread, I agree with thr above. Buying locally for a bit more is well worth it.
I bought a van 2 hours away a few years back, had major issues with it, and became a total pain in the ass to sort out. If it were local, Id have dropped it back and handed them the keys and walked home.
You have 6 months under sale or goods act to return the vehicle as not fit for purpose dont you? Id be chasing that one and returning the van.
z1ppyFull MemberDan, that probably due to google know “your own” internet preferences (so listing due to STW use). I’d be writing them a “Google” review, along with posting on numerous forums..
dooosukFree MemberSurely you can chase them on the Sales of Goods act or at least file a claim for the external warranty that was part of the deal.
cloudnineFree MemberSo you are saying you’ve had awful experience with

If you want the company name to get the thread pushed up themn use Lee commercials of Carlisle in natural text.

rootFree MemberSo I had it repaired and serviced as at that point I didn’t know when it had last been done. It cost £734, most of it was the injector cost.
Hang on you paid to have it fully serviced then expected the seller to tfoot this bill? Are you joking?
I called O Lee commercials and told them, he had excuse after excuse why he shouldn’t pay the costs,
Fair enough – why should he pay for a service? he only agreed to pay for the repair.
Now I have got more issues with the van, a wheel bearing has failed and the hand brake light on the dash isn’t coming on, the wiper motor needs replacing and the back door handle won’t work…. pads are a consumable so you cant count them in. Perosnally I would count a bearing in this too. Rest seems like fair wear and tear on an 8yr old Vivaro…
I’m not siding with the seller but it pisses me right off when everyone starts trashing this seller based on one account on a forum (that could even be bullshit anyway)

I agree most of the second repair bills or wear and tear, also the service on the van was my choice. The reason I had it serviced as I know idea when it had been down because the dealer didn’t sort the service history out!!
What I’m trying to warn people is if you have to use 8 different phones to get them to speak to you after they already agreed to help there’s something amiss.
Also my experience isn’t bullshit. It’s fact, of shit service and when a company sells a vehicle and states on the invoice a six month warranty is included ( gold cover) then dosn’t pay but continues to trade, that’s bull shit.! You didnt have to buy it without seeing the service history – that was your choice.

Yeh well you were askign them to pay for a repair and service as well. Going by your posts on here you sound like a right nightmare customer.

Warrnaty means nothing. “Gold cover” even less so – check the terms of the sale (or did you not bother reading that either?) and as mentioned already take a look at SOGA.

Thanks for the top advise.
By the way your posts read your one of those rogue traders to!! Well like Mr O lee, I hope others read this thread and think twice from buying vans or cars from the likes of you.jota180Free MemberWarrnaty means nothing. “Gold cover” even less so – check the terms of the sale (or did you not bother reading that either?) and as mentioned already take a look at SOGA.
I read from the OP that it was an after-market warranty which the dealer failed to pay for after being paid by the OP
He did say that but you decided to edit that bit out.cbikeFree MemberCheck Poster history – Sceptometer at 10. Suggest we are wasting our time.
mactheknifeFull MemberDerek, nightmare with the van and good luck chasing the cash. I bought a vivaro a few months back, an 08 plate. Within a week i had a faulty injector. I paid the same as you to get it replaces but a bit of googling throws up a faulty design on certain models that can cause water to pool on the engine bay where the injectors are. This corrodes them to the engine. Its a well documented fault. I know its an older van but have a chat with vauxhall and document everything so if another one goes you can get a deal with them for part or all of the repairs.
derek123Free MemberThanks Mactheknife, I hope this next round of repairs is it for a while, it was funny, the van was at the garage when watch dog did a feature on them, vauxhall will warrant the fault now upto 7 years, and at the time I called the helpline from watch dog, my van was 3 week past and they wouldn’t entertain it!! Shame as they said they would have covered all repairs.
Such is the way..awclymmFree MemberI bought a Honda quad bike off this [company]. Was reassured it had been mechanically tested and that everything was in perfect order before it shipped.
Upon arrival the bike’s rear brake was seized up and uworkable from both the foot pedal and the handlebar. Totally 100% seized. The bike itself was in very shoddy condition.
When I queried this with Oliver Lee himself, he told me that brakes don’t form part of his mechanical inspection and weren’t covered by his previous commitment. Also, the V5 document for the bike never appeared despite him telling me that he would post it at the same time that the bike shipped.
As soon as I flagged the issues with him he stopped returning phone calls and emails despite me leaving him about 6 voicemail messages and numerous email messages.
I have taken up the matter with DVLA and local trading standards officers.
onehundredthidiotFull MemberI looked at a t5 from them. It looked great but felt wrong compared to my previous one. Seller promised fixes but only if a deposit was paid. They were an hour from home but too far to bother for the potential issues.

i would like to add a comment to the posts already written about us:
Firstly the Honda quad bike which you purchased from us hadnt been checked or put through the workshops in any way as with every bike we sell on ebay all of which is clearly written in red writing for you to read which im sure you did prior to purchase. They are part exchanges at a fraction of the the retail price which we sell to clear as you knew when you purchased it. As for me telling you the rear brake wasnt part of our inspection there clearly was no inspection what so ever in any way shape or form.
The bike which you purchsed was a 2010 road registered honda 420 FARM quad which you purchased for £ 2000 plus vat, now there are plenty of other 420 hondas throughout the UK which have been workshop checked and are sold with a warranty most of which are between £3800 – £4200 plus vat which will have a fully functioning rear brake.
When you contacted me i offered for you to bring the back to us and we would rectify the rear brake for free but you said you didnt have time and it was too far too travel and you did not want to pay delivery costs. I also offered to put the bike thorugh our workshop and give it a full inspection, go through it with a fine tooth comb, replace any parts that are needed and include a full service and a 6 month warranty although although if this was the required choice the bike would be the same price as every other on ebay or for sale elsewhere between £3800 & £4200 plus vat. I still stand by either offer should you wish to take us up on either one, all you have to do is the bring the bike to us and we will do either one and deliver it back to you free.
One thing i do want to make clear is this machine was a 5 year old ex working farm bike. In the real world these machines are used everyday and do have a hard life and do need constant maintence, if this is the only fault a seized foot brake lever then this isnt bad at all for a working machine of this age and to call us cowboys is beyond reasonable.
Please check our ebay listings for our terms and conditions which is written in red writing stating no machines are checked what so ever and if you do not agree withany terms then please buy one elsewhere.
oleecommercialsltdFree MemberDerek Moses who purchased the Vivaro from us has forgot to mention he part exchanged his rover with us which we did to help him out but forgot to mention the head gasket had failed and it boiled its water faster than our kettle in the bait room. Firstly I did tell Derek the Vivaro had been owned by a lease company from brand new which is indeed true, it had been owned and operated by LEX Vehicle leasing and did indeed did have full Vauxhall service history which i told him i didnt have at the time of purchase which sometimes can be the case as a lot of lease vehicles come with a service history print rather than a stamped book which we have to sometimes request from the either the lease company or the main dealer which have serviced the van. One thing you can always guarantee with a lease vehicle is that it will have some form of service record and it will always be a main dealer history and can be easily obtained from either.
Like i told you This vivaro had been serviced from new by Arnold Clark of Glasgow and everything is recorded on there system for your van.
As for the injector issue which is clearly a manufacturing fault i did agree to pay half of the bill with you as the warranty company did not cover injector problems on the vauxhall vivaro as the whole world knows that vivaros have injector and gearbox issues and they can fail at any given time without warning.
I only offered to pay half as we could of got the injector removed for a fraction of the price you were quoted and this was a 80% of the overall bill but you refused to bring the van back over to us.
The other issues which you mention are all wear and tear items on a 8 year old 150,000 van especially a vivaro. The service which you had carried out was not down to us to pay as this was your choice.
As for you being a 3 hour drive away is total nonsense you are 50 minute drive from us, 1 hour max even if your driving a rover with a knackered head gasket and you have to stop every 10 mins for coolant.
Every van we sell is open to any inspection and you are under no pressure to buy from us, if we dont have a service record at the time of viewing we will do our best to get it or find out which main dealer has done any service work and you are under no obligation to buy you can simply walk away if your not happy. We always do our best to keep everyone happy but we clearly cant keep everyone happy. Please remember from time to time HIGH mileage older vans do suffer from minor problems which can and do happen, you get good and bad with everything not just vivaros and we will always do our best to solve any problems or faults to the best of our ability and we have lots of happy customers.
gears_suckFree MemberSorry to harp on but this still doesn’t explain why the warranty remained unpaid.
spooky_b329Full MemberOr ignored calls. Sounds like if Mr Lee didn’t filter out troublesome callers and communicated better, irate customers (even those that do screw you over on the trade in) wouldn’t start posting all over the internet about it.
That warranty, probably not even valid without proof of service history, I know I was flogged one but as the first service wasn’t recorded by the garage (ex demonstrator) it was never valid. And I’ve also had a van dealer promise the service history but never answer my calls once I’d driven the van away so they are not high in my Christmas card list.
I’ve bought 4 cars and 1 van from dealers, and only one did not string me along dishonestly regarding history of the vehicle or directly refute questions regarding known faults of the vehicle (which then went faulty)
bruneepFull MemberHaha a dealer moaning about a part ex trade in. Now that is funny.
🙂
