It’s all getting to a fairly high level of batsh1t already, and the gibbon hasn’t even been sworn in. As alluded to elsewhere, the direction of travel is fast becoming dystopian..

Have you seen how big Greenland is? Think of all that Lebensraum!

It’s all down to projection systems. It’s not as big as people think it is

It’s about the same size as the Congo.

Bet there’s loads of lovely oil under all the boring snow and dumb reindeer too…

Of course there is, Greenland is very mineral rich, which is why Diaper Don is so keen on encouraging the use of non-renewable resources, to increase climate warming, to melt the icecaps so that mining for all those wonderful minerals is easier, so that all his ultra rich industrial buddies will pay him billions and keep him in power so that they can keep making more money.

    Simples.
And Don probably thinks he’ll get away with it because he’s got Putin and Xi to keep all the other nations who aren’t run by authoritarian Fascist despots busy.

Trying to follow the machinations of all these assholes is enough to drive one crazy if you let it.

But yes, the rhetoric is dangerously ramping up, and despite him rarely following through on his weird outbursts, sooner or later he’s going to have/want to demonstrate he can deliver.

I’ve not seen those reports but you can only hope.

I was thinking that if he even did draw up plans to expand his empire, the military would refuse, and then I remembered that they invaded Grenada when it suited them. I’m expecting a false flag attack on the US base in Greenland – I’ll take 1st April if anyone wants to set up a sweepstake

Here’s a comparison of Australia, U.S., and Greenland at about the latitude of the U.K. Greenland is a very big chunk of land.

Ah but that is surface area

The land mass is only ~30% of that as it’s basically a large weirdly shaped island

It does seem appropriate he is eyeing up Greenland considering its name is from a chancer lying to try and get people to settle there.

I actually found this article very interesting even though it doesn’t paint Trump as the lunatic that we all love to believe he is.

Is this not just his way of negotiating?

Cause a stooshie, ask for the impossible, settle for something more realistic.

So we see another new US base on Greenland, a better (for US) trade deal with Canada, and a better (for US) access to Panama Canal?

This is called “sanewashing”. He say’s idiotic things and then normal people try to rationalize it as, “I think what he really means is…”

If you read the above link to the Times article it doesn’t sound quite as idiotic as it might first appear.

And rather than describing it as “negotiating” a bargaining manoeuvre is more likely to be the way that Trump sees it. Which very much reflects his style during his first presidency when things were portrayed as “deals” in a similar way to business deals.

Greenland is also home to a large American space facility and has some of the largest deposits of rare earth minerals, which are crucial in the manufacture of batteries and high-tech devices.

I know someone who might want access to both those things…

Not sure why Trump is ever described as a businessman who makes deals. He inherited the real estate of his dad and his businesses’ have filed for bankruptcy 6 times between 1991-2009. if he just stuck all his money in the bank he’d be worth more than he is today.

It’s like the “joke” goes (probably already been mentioned on this thread: “How on earth is it that Donald Trump is worth a small fortune?” Because he started with a very large one.

He is constantly described as a businessman who makes deals! And it is certainly how he wants to be described. Obviously whether he has been successful in his business ventures is a whole different question.

Some years back someone calculated that if Trump had not touched his inheritance and simply lived off the interest he would be wealthier today, or something like that.

Edit : Sorry you did actually make that ^^ claim. And here is the confirmation of that point :

Putin must be fairly pleased that Trump is normalising the idea that powerful countries threatening other countries because they want their land or resources is just the way the world works.

Credit there to Richard Branson. He gave a talk where he promised everyone he’d tell them how to become a millionaire. In the presentation he said “first become a billionaire, then buy an airline.”
