My wood / wattle & daub Crud Guard pre-dates my big wheels by probably 10yrs but works ok.

Is there no end to the 29er specific questions that will be asked on here?

Cruds etc will fit fine, only something close-fitting/curved would cause problems.

    Yes.

You’ll also need 29er specific bars, grips, saddle and seatpost.

Oh and don’t forget the 29er specific back pack.

TBH…….. YOU need to be 29er specific to ride one properly ………..the trouble is not everyone IS 29er specific …and that’s where you get the problem with disgruntled wanna-be’s. 😉

If the marketing people were smart they’d rush out 29er specific mudguards and charge a hefty premium due to the fact they’d be larger and able to deal with increased amounts of mud and water as the bikes are soooo much faster

Don’t get an ass saver thing and expect it to do the job of a full coverage guard, it’s not designed for that clearly
old crud guard works, looks rubbish but works

    Early start, RD? 😉

I wish we could see the return of the CrudGuard. That one with the stays. Was a superb product for HT bikes, and I reckon if they looked at the fittings it would be great on some FS bikes.

As long as it came in a 29er specific size, natchrally.

One of the less well known advantages of 29ers is that the slower rotation of the wheels causes them to throw up less crud at any given speed than 26ers.

I really want to believe that. But have a feeling its a joke?

This would be true if the bike was moving at the same speed, however my scientific team have determined that the wheels are actually turning much faster due to the materially higher speeds attained by the average mincer. As such they expect the wheels to throw up much more mud and water and at a greater velocity.

There is of course a point at which the 29er is going so fast it barely touches the ground, we call it levitation mode or the 5th dimension. Once in the 5th dimension there will be no mud thrown up at all.
