Do any of you use heat shrink tubing? I need to repair the stuff on my Lupines, and it’s definitely heat shrink tubing but the stuff available from Maplin is rubbish.

I’ve used the stuff from Maplin okay. Even when I didn’t have access to a heat gun, I managed to make it shrink okay over a gas cooker flame.

    Jamie,

No problem but please don’t everyone shout otherwise it’ll cost me a fortune in postage!
Don’t forget to let me know what size.

If anyone needs heatshrink, try your local fishing tackle shop, as its used a lot in carp fishing rigs, you get quite a good price and it shrinks down perfect every time, recomend ESP branded

Try the steam from a kettle for shrinking it.

And no – never had any shorting issues either.

Resurrecting old thread here, cos I forgot to check back..

The Maplin stuff I found wasn’t flexible enough. I had double layers where I went from a thick bit around the plug to the thinner bit on the main cable, and this caused a tight bend at that point – and other places where I’d doubled up. Consequently I’ve got to strip it all and do it again.

Fishing shop only had 2″ long bits. Seriously.

I think I remember Toolstation do it, so Screwfix might as well? Any electrical factors will sell it too.

Try CPC or RS Components if you don’t like the Maplin stuff

Coatesy, will do – that your real name? Will I get looked at weirdly for asking for someone by that name? I often get looked at weirdly in there 🙂

Bring some in, I’ll drop you some cash or just buy something – I need fork oil for starters.

We’re all wierd in there too,ask for Craig if you want, but Coatesy will do. What size are you looking for as i’ve got a few different sizes?

Er well I’ve got two thick wires and a thin one to cover. So I dunno, I want it to shrink down to say 3-4mm diameter? Then some thicker stuff, 6mm or so for the joins. See you tomorrow probably. My name’s Ben, I’m remembered in there for having bought to Patriots, a 5 and a Kona Dew in the space of about 4 months. First one was a £1500 bargain with 66 coils on it (mmm) and the rest were insurance replacements. The tall guy knows me, I dunno if you’re him or not tho 🙂
