After spending time reminiscing on the Mint Sauce thread here I thought I would look up legendary Dirt as well. And you know what, it still make me want to go and ride me bike in the sun with my mates, it#s bloody brilliant. Yes, some parts haven’t aged well (Jez Avery’s section springs to mind) but the rest still makes me smile.

    Anyway, take a glance.

Interestingly, Pete Tomkins never kept a copy of the original footage, so I supplied him with a DVD ripped from the VHS.
Presumably, that’s the origin of the copy on the Crud site:

MBUK gave a DVD copy of Dirt away on the front of the magazine (Well, I paid for the DVD and got a free catalogue 😆 ) It’s got loads of other stuff on the DVD as well.

2006 Fort Bill World Cup too.

I certainly went out and did some extreme foot-out-and-forward cornering after watching it. And the “Superman”.

Dirt was the first fun MTB film but the medium peaked right here

Give yourself an hour for this one.

Dirt and chainspotting. never ever get fed up of them 🙂

the version of dirt that came with MBUK didn’t have the original soundtrack, which was really weird.

Dirt & Mud Cows!! Now there is a blast from the past, both came free with MBUK, I chucked out the videos only a couple of months ago!

I still want a red specialized hardtail like JMC

There were a few from that era. Was it Dirty Calves that came after Mud Cows?

They all made me want to ride and what the guys were doing was similar to what my friends and I were doing; well, the gaps were smaller than that compared to say me now and the Athertons / Ratboy et al riding down stuff at 90mph. Skids in fields, manuals through puddles and argy bargy through gates is what made me fall in love with mtb-ing.

Wasn’t it Burning Calves? They also made me wan’t to ride, I remember seeing Martyn Ashton riding down the Portway rock, so we went and did it that week. Really opened my eyes to what you can do on a bike and how much fun it can be!

Found some of the classic videos on YouTube, but very poor quality

Only reason I keep my VHS player is to watch the original tape. JMC was such a hero I got to my mother to buy some fleece fabric to make a copy of the green fleece he was wearing in one of the sections.
My jaw dropped when I saw his FSR at Fort William at the weekend.

Watching it again though, we’ve come a long way eh?

The Sprung series is great. Some lovely cinematography coupled with a great score. I particularly like the Brooklyn Machine Works B&W bits in Sprung 4 from 3’40” http://www.veoh.com/watch/v16952848GG54WxcM
