Definitive Wyre Forest Route Wanted.

Could anyone send me a gpx file for what they consider to be the definitive best route around the Wyre forest with an emphasis on the downhill’s / fun stuff? I ride there quite often and have some good routes but I’m getting a bit bored of them now.
I know most of the well-known trails a fair few of the cheeky trails and would like a new way of linking them together and hopefully finding some new bits.
We have tried exploring and had some good rides and some really terrible rides. I have followed a few routes I have downloaded from people on Strava and again had mixed results.

We have never managed to find anything of note over the Wyre to get any air from apart from the odd lump in the trail like that tree stump.

The Wyre Forest is predominantly xc tracks and easy fireroads and generally suffers from damp conditions.

Have you tried the Ribbesford DH stuff only a 15-20 min ride from the visitors centre, the guy’s have put loads of work on building stuff over the last 12 months and there are trails for all levels of experience and plenty of jumps, plus strangley it stays quite dry.

I have been over Ribbersford quite a bit recently and love it but as you said its dh only. Im looking more for a proper ride incorporating all the best bits of the wyre if such a ride exists. one of the rides we do is exactly that but with some known good bits missing and no good way to link them in. When exploring we have found that you can spend a long time riding to link up the relatively short good bits.

andysredmini…. can you give me a link tot he ride you do around the wyre as I will be up there in a week or so and havent rode there for around two years so forgot most of it. I know one run callled camber and thats about it!

Hate to say it but I think you should just embrace the climbs. Nothing in there is too steep / long / hard. Granny ring it up then smash it back down.

Also a couple of the local bike shops do rides in there in the week on an evening, Overspoke and Bewdley outdoors, get in touch and tag along.

I like the wyre forest. Not to much air Bourne stuff but some fantastic single track. I start from arley and ride up from there. I head up to the left and it brings you out by the caravan park. There are a couple of routes that lead you down to dowels brook. Follow that along the brook and you can double back to do the off camber sections. Take the trail along the brook to the fire road climb and on to the top of the awesome decent down to the brook. Cross over and brook and come back along the trail at the bottom back to the fire road. Fire road climb and take a right and head off to the road along the fire road. Then back down to the hawk batch car park. From there back down the trail you come up to start with. And you’re back to the harbour at arley for a pint.

Might not make sense but I can give you my strava id and you can look at my routes as I am up there once or twice a week. I am from the south of brum so could possibly meet up sometime.

surprising how many wyre forest locals exist on here!

Kinver, clent and wyre local here.
Kinver and Clent are rideable from home and Wyre is 30 mins drive.
Feel lucky to have such good riding so close and not have to rely on trail centres.

The Wyre is somewhere that takes a fair bit of exploring find the good stuff and then be able to link it together into a route without to much fire road.

I’ve got a GPX I can send your way for a 27 mile ride that takes in a fair mix of singletrack.

FWIW it was running so fast in there last week, faster than I’ve ridden in years, that I even managed to get a couple of KOM’s (which is a first) and a load of pretty serious PR’s too.

The thing that always makes me chuckle is just about everyone knows the trails by different names! Every time I ride with new people they’ll ask “have you ridden xyz” to which I’ll generally respond “I don’t think so”… Then we ride it and lo and behold, I just know it as a different name!

For instance… “3 Bears”… Also known as “Goldilocks”, “Reverse Camber” or “Witches Hut”… And those are just the 3 other names that I know of!

I’ve lived in droitwich for years and have a house there I rent out currently. Moving around a lot with the RAF at moment which is why I’m currently not living there.

One bit I am keen to find again I’m told is called cottage run but not on strava.
From what I remember it brings you out by a cottage and is a series of down hill s-bends, The person who told me it is called cottage run said it was probably known as something else on strava but he couldn’t find it.

So’s my GF! Small world… She occasionally rides road with Stourbridge CC, but more often than not MTB with me.

I’m of Wollaston stock… now ensconced in SW Wolves.

there is a good, mainly bridleway, way to get onto the Wyre forest out of the back of Kinver, via Arley, we call it the River run or Vista run.

Well after all this I ended up going over on Wednesday night with a friend who showed me some really good bits I have never found before. And I now have a few ideas about linking them into some other bits I like.

I think when they Wyre is dry(ish) its one of my favourite places to ride. Nothing hard or technical just a nice ride in a massive forest.

Its a horrible place to be when its wet and muddy !!
