I’m looking for some reasonably priced free standing plastic storage racking / shelving for a dampish location (so wood / metal not ideal). Stainless would be lovely but £££. Big dug look ok but massively expensive delivery so it makes the shelves pretty pricey overall. Most of the stuff on Amazon is a decent price but lots of reviews saying they are flimsy and wobbly and i don’t want something that collapses if a put more than a couple of kilos on it.

    Any suggestions?

I bought a load from B&Q for the cellar. 900w 400d 1800h and something silly like 50kg per shelf. They have been superb, but I can’t see an exact match on the website. Mine are probably ten years old now so not too surprising.

Costco have a plastic offering around £40 per unit, 68kg per shelf rating. Not tried them but their metal offering is solid and reasonable money so might be worth a look if convenient

Does it have to be plastic? I got some galvanised rack units from Rhino Racking (other places are available) which I imagine will be pretty tolerant to damp. My garage isn’t particularly damp, but no problems after a year or so.

The shelves are cheap MDF board, but you could give them a few coats of varnish cheaply which would stop them from rotting for years.

This seems ridiculously cheap, and looks very similar to what I have. That, coupled with some varnish should see you right for a while….

Having used both, I rate them both but the plastic ones are better in damp conditions. The chipboardsshelves on the metal ones get pretty rank, they’re also responsible for the metal shelves being incredibly heavy when packed.

The plastic ones can be manhandled onto a trolly and in/out of your car without snapping your fart strings.

The metal ones are much, much stronger but unless you putting engine blocks etc on them the plastic ones are more than strong enough for home /garden/ garage use

Be watchful with sizes if you are comparing the plastic ones – I bought some that I thought were pretty much identical to the costco ones from screwfix for what I thought was a good price – until I realised what I’d actually bought was a scale model of some shelves.

I just go these and am happy with them https://www.screwfix.com/p/essentials-5-tier-polypropylene-garage-shelving-unit-850mm-x-400mm-x-1900mm/748tw

You can wobble them for sure but they’re stable enough.

I didn’t attach them to the wall. Instead I put some wooden rails across the room from one set to another, which stabilises them further an creates a sort of attic space for storing boxes etc.

Have you tried arsebook marketplace and gumtree, lots of garage racking, plastic racking etc there, might get lucky, I did, on more than one occasion.
