Sod off eh and do us all a favour.

Just because you don’t agree with giving to charity and how others would see excesses of money being better used doesn’t mean you need to degenerate the conversation down to insults. Grow up.

For me my priorities are the other way round. I don’t need to win the lottery (which is a mindset a lot of people take, but thats a completly different debate) and you shouldn’t wait to win the lottery either before giving to charity.

Everyone has different opinions out there but the problem in the UK is that most people if asked what they would do if they won the lottery would say they’d rather buy a penis extension than helping out those less fortunate than them. Just different mindsets i guess.

as i mentioned i already give to charity, annoyingly i had to reduce the amount as i couldnt afford to give so much, however will continue to raise money when i can.

and i dont want to win the lottery… if i did then i’d buy a lottery ticket… something i’ve never done. as long as my job stops me ending up homeless and worse off than the people i’m looking after in my job.. i’ll keep doing it and be happy with my lot 🙂

i see your point LHS, and agree to a point, just think its a bit odd to make a point of it in this thread which was set out to be a harmless daydreaming thread about fancy cars.

but I never fantasise about being rich either

Well, that seemed to me to be what this thread is about… yeah?
I’m far from car obssessed, but I have got an imagination, ffs.

but I never fantasise about being rich either – I feel guilty enough about the excessive amount of money I have now! I’m more interested in things I might achieve with enough effort and luck…

Not everyone does SfB which is exactly my point.

LHS – why did you bother reading a thread entitled “Daydreaming about a lottery win…”? You must have had a fair idea that it would make your liberal, priggish blood boil?

If I saw a thread entitled “What’s your favourite charity” – I’d leave well alone.

Yeah, its quite obvious you have no interest in charity.

Ha…the internet is a wonderful place full of people who know best.

Anyway, back on topic…I’d buy an Aston Martin…first.

But I’d need a lot more than £800k if I’m to buy myself all the luxuries I deserve.

More than £800k! Don’t be greedy. Go and wash your mind for having such thoughts.

I feel terrible for thinking about spending lots of imaginary money on something I haven’t got…

But I’ve just popped outside and imagined giving all the money to someone with a charity box outside, and now I feel much better.

I’ve just imagined putting some of my imaginary pound coins in an imaginary sock and hitting somebody imaginary over the head with it. I feel much better also.

the syndicate in work hate me, they all want to win millions each. where as i would only want to win about £300k, pay off debt, mortgage and have enough to retire early.

    You are either:
1 Old and/or don’t expect to live long
2 Already minted, so should just retire anyway
    or
3 Have the life style of a hermit, with no needs.

In my 40’s and healthy, married and 3 kids – I reckon that £2m is the minimum we’d need to not ever worry about money.

And Range Rover is the answer, plus a 2 door Bentley.

Jeez, why the f should someone be banned, knocked over the head & insulted just because they would prefer to give to charity rather than buy an expensive car, eggy or what!

Over the past few years me and Harry the Spider have organised, at great personal (but not financial) cost, a few races known as Hit the North.
We don’t go on about what we did with the money that we made, suffice to say that it would have been enough for us to go out and buy a car each.

    But we didn’t.
We gave it all to charity.
LHS – how much have you given away to charity? I can tell you that me and him have given away (give or take a few quid) about 10 **** grand.

Now p1ss off and stop being such a dick.

p.s. for the record, if I won the lottery I’d give some to charity, sure I would. But I’d also have so much stuff that I’d probably have to buy an aircraft hangar to put it all in. I’ll let you know if that happens, obviously.

In Leominster, where I grew up there’s a row of old almshouses. Above the door is a picture of an axe, and below that is inscribed:

“He who gives away all before he is dead, let ’em take this hatchet, and knock ’em on the head”

The point being that you can give to charity, but you also have moral grounds for keeping some of it yourself.

Cars – £100k (more than one)
Houses – £1m (three or four modest ones about the place)
£5-10m – invested for personal income
£90m – invested for charitable works Gates style

    Is that so wrong?

I was thinking about this earlier. I’d have one of these:

and a pad in the highlands somewhere. Preferably near a distillery.

    Again, pointless insults. Grow up.

Guess a few nerves have been touched.

Funny how someone can be chastised for wanting to support charities yet seemingly hero worshiped for wanting to spend £150k on a supercar instead.

MMmmm was you daydreaming LHS or will you be buying soon,

On average i give more to charity each year than i spend on cars. You?

    But we didn’t.

Nobody has disputed that giving to charity is a good thing.

The OP’s original post wasn’t about that though!,it was the hypothetical question below.

What would the massive blow a reasonable sized wad on? It must be suitable for a family of four and all the crap that goes with one

I’m pretty sure that most people would donate a sizeable chunk to their charity of choice if they dropped a huge lotto win.

After having read all of this I have taken time to reflect and if I win the lottery I won’t be spending it on a BMW M5 Touring.

My priority is to try to use the money to get some Private health care in the hope that this would help them both improve their quality of life. Not sure after that and a house (rented all my life). Fiesta/Focus/Fabia/Octavia? Choices choices. Oh and a ST4 or EX9?

Big comfy 4wd for day to day use and a Kimberly Karavan to take the bikes an friends away for a weekend.

Have you noticed how a lot of people who run charities have nice cars?

Back on topic, I’d replace my Transporter with a new one, might even splash out on a few extras, pop up roof, leather seats, alloys etc.

hmmm, I get your drift, there’s no point supporting charity because most of it will be nicked by the grasping staff? Good call!
