Enjoyed that! Danny’s one of the guests on the bike night at the Kendal film festival next month.

That was great although it further cements the fact that I am shit on a bike

After wondering if DannyMac and Akrigg had actually done every trick that can be done on video on a bike i watched this latest vid with some, er, caution, expecting to be all “seen it before” init.

Well, gota say, i was wrong, very, very wrong, so much genuinely new stuff in that video and with a brilliant fun outlook to it all! Even makes Scotland look nice and warm 😉

Grrr. Stuck in a hotel with a ropey internet connection, unable to watch the video as it’s all blocky. Probably doesn’t help that I learned of the video via the BBC news on BBC1 Scotland so there’ll be a fair few people having a wee gander

I’d be interested to see a list of all filming locations; I recognise several incl. Pentlands, North Third and (I think) on the River Tay?

Mrs hh informs me that one of the locations was Lindores in Fife…

There’s a credits list at the end that might help you pick out some of the locations.

Just watched it again… Mrs hh is right! Dammit.

It’s a pity RedBull and others still find the need to credit him as a ‘YouTube’ sensation – as if he’s in any way comparable to funny cat videos and the rest – he’s simply a bicycle genius.

WTF with that picnic bench slide….I wouldn’t even be able to slide my bike bottle along the table without it falling !

Train to Dunvegan from the Pentlands ? I don’t think so 😉

    Genius.

The jumps and front flips were in Cambusbarron Woods. That small sequence took a day of practice and a day to film. My son and I were chatting to Danny and Stu afterwards – lovely people who had all the time in the world for us.

And here’s Stu’s blog on making the film:

Just great, can’t believe half what he can do on a bike!!! Really enjoy watching him ride, I think that’s my favourite film he’s done now, just after the original one in the city.

Much prefer this film to the studio type showbiz ones. It’s much more like the sort of riding I do… 😉

Just watched it with my kids and mother in law, everyone loved it, kids shooting again, again!
    Very well done vid

There’s also a making of vid on youtube which my family and I manage to sneak into! Great guy and we witnessed the real dedication it takes to make this stuff. Train guard was getting a bit grumpy by the end of the day as he wanted to go home for his tea.

3 days to film that log slide

And vast quantities of vaseline to make the log slippy enough 😯

The blog gives just an insight into how much time and effort goes into making films – 3 days for the log sequence which is what? five or six seconds? OK, that’s an extreme example and no doubt why it’s mentioned, most of the shots will have taken a lot less.

I’d watched it at work with no sound so didn’t realise that in some of the outtakes what I thought were just him saying “oops” or “try again” were in fact the lyrics!

    Yeah, liked it.

Obvious lots of CGI going on don’t be conned!

    CGI outtakes too?

Mrs just read that it took about 100 attempts to get the log slide.

OK so there’s enough gushing praise on this thread, I’m just disappointed that there weren’t particularly many theatrical winks. There were however plenty of drinks for a sky-high fee.

I heard it was just one take, against a green screen at Elstree Studios. 😉

It’s an annoying advert for a sugary drink.

I thought it was very cheeky of Danny to basically ignore everyone else in the film. They all say hello and call him by name but he barely gives them a glance in response. Superstardom’s clearly gone to his head 😉

That’s the first of his vids that has something in it that I could manage, just a case of finding some deep enough water

haha the only thing I could manage on that video was drinking the red bull

I wouldn’t even chance that 🙄 I think I might be able to wave at random people who call out my name.

OTOH, once it’s been watched a million times that’s 69 days of viewing for only 3 days of recording, bargain 😆

can’t help having reservations over encouraging kids to play on railway tracks and silage bales (half ton bales rolling away have killed numerous times)

not sure that’s the spirit that got DM where he is!

Seriously, any kid within visual radius of bales will play on them, we all did all my childhood (and beyond) and nobody got hurt, worst damage was them rolling through a fence or two perhaps.

I wonder if you have to like redbull to be sponsored by them? Is that the final acceptance test or something?

That video was brilliant for the cleverness, ingenuity and yet simplicity rather than in-your-face spectacular largeness.

But my favourite thing is imagining how awesome it would be not to have to stop to open gates on rides.

You are assuming that there’s something in the can. I don’t know if he genuinely likes Red Bull or it was just a required shot and the can was empty or contained water or tea or coffe.

I once played in a band which were on a tour sponsored by Monster. Along with the energy drink they had Monster water, which was the exact same can but water inside. I suspect something like this is happening.

A couple of times I’ve taken shots when riding or climbing and been asked not to print or put them online as the subject was sponsored and wearing a competitor’s product. It’s life, it happens.

    Brilliant.

Genuine “lol” at the puddle. The hay bale and the flip/back thing made me say wow out loud ( “wol” I’m trademarking it)

I gasped out loud at the case/front flip and the drop off the bridge to the picnic table near the end. I’m trademarking GOL

Cut Media watched Akrigg’s Trial Trails vid and turned it up to 11.

Doesn’t Akrigg do his own production and editing?
Compare his efforts to that of red bull sponsored tra-la-la….

Still impressive, mind… But Akrigg is my man crush….

Is he possibly the best bike rider out there? Apart from the amazing trials stuff he’s doing slopestyle tricks off tiny jumps, casing a double into frontflip. Jumping off that roof to flat.

It just seems he has 100% control over everything, all the time, on a level I’ve never seen from anyone else. Even when he crashes he gets out of it perfectly. Would love to see him do a DH WC race or even better compete in Rampage.
