Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent cycle jacket? I have been trying out a few running jackets (see blog) but I need something for the bike now and the running jackets just don’t cut it!

I’m not sure. I have an Aldi one but it doesnt feel like a second skin and it doest have a formal hood (which always gets a mention when I wear it to dinner parties)

Not sure whether it’ll be any use to you

I also have an Aldi one. It’s black. Not sure if that means anything, but thought I would mention it.

Royals have some good deals on at the moment if you want a really good one. Not cheap but well worth the extra £.

Doesn’t matter what sort – other than –

Look for a big zip pull you can grab with gloves, soft collar liner, velcro wrist tabs and most important of all pit-zips. Pit-zips really reduce the boil-in-the-bag effect. A front pocket that you can use without taking your camelbak off is good (the camelbak belt strap fouls most side pockets). Oh – and check how small a space it will stuff into when not being worn.

Buy exotica-miracle-breathing material if you like – but remember it’ll stop breathing when its covered with mud. Whatever it’s made of – don’t put it in washing machines – you’ll bugger up the proofing and seam sealing.
