Correct Garmin angle?

What is the correct angle to have your Garmin or similar mounted “out front” of your handlebars?

Is it horizontal (for Aeroe), in line with the stem (for aesthetics) or angled upwards to make it easier to read?

I’m asking because it’s always seemed that horizontal is the correct answer, but I’ve just seen two men on bikes in the Alps with them angled upwards and I want to check that I’m on solid ground before I go and berate them in Pigeon French. 🤣

A small upward tilt would probably be the optimal position, being parallel to you body/head position would probably lessen reflections and make a glance for information better.

Obviously by ‘correct’ you mean something else. Correct being a word widely used to other outsiders.

In line with stem. It’s all about the looks, obviously.

Mines in line with the stem, zero issues seeing the screen even when on the drops

Serious suggestion:

Check how the LCD is aligned. They can have quite narrow optimum viewings angles outside of which the colours / contrast inverts.  But they don’t have to be aligned perpendicular to the screen. More obvious on things like laptops where the screen is often optimized to be viewed from above.

I’d have thought that if anything they’d already have optimised it for viewing from below.

Otherwise flat, anything else just looks wrong 🤣

While we’re on the subject can someone recommend a good MTB mount for a Garmin virgin? I occasionally hit the ejector seat and send the bike flying down the trail upside down.

And, for a Brucie bonus, wear polarised sunglasses, so that you think the screen has gone blank.

Don’t ask me how I know this.

The obvious answer is to put the thing where you can see it.

But, the height of the mount is important too. One of my mounts puts the garmin much higher (in line with top edge of bars). As a result it needs a back tilt to see clearly. The mounts that put the garmin in line with the centre of the bar are better (at least for me /my bikes).

I put mine on my stem, it was pretty hard to read in bright sun and I didn’t like having to look so far down. I find it a lot easier on the out-front mount. I have mine angled slightly upwards.

76 design do a adhesive top tube mount in two sizes. It seems to keep the wife’s Wahoo out of the firing line.

Edit. Sorry, just realised this is the Enduro mount linked above.

road bike is mounted off the stem bolts so it’s inline with the stem, about parallel with the ground. Gravel bike is offset from the stem topcap, angled slightly up. MTB is a topcap mount so again angled back from horizontal.

I’d actually say the road bike is the easiest one to read, mainly because it’s further forwards.

Correct Garmin angle is dependent on the height of your socks.
