Thinking of giving these a try for muddy races – would be interested to here any opinions on them though? I use Mud X (2.0) at the moment but can clog the fork in very sticky mud.

I used to use them a lot when I was racing, they tend cut down through the soft mud to the grippy stuff below, I hardly ever had any problems with clogging, but they need to be pumped up quite hard (55/60psi) to avoid pinch flats and can be quite scary on loose gravel.
My mate was telling me he used them at Newnham in the Soggy Bottom race last weekend, and while others where having to stop and unclog their bikes, he didn’t have any problems at all.

cheers for that – I may just get a pair then. They are quite expensive for such a retro tyre oh hum

I used one at SITS last year, and it clogged up 🙂

Bet it wasn’t as clogged as mine 2.0 tire at SITS last year though…
I was envious of your clogging

I have one on the singlespeed and ive got it around 55/60psi.its on the rear and seems to dig down well enough for me to not have a bad word against it.maybe in some clay-like mud it would be a problem but we dont have much clay stuff up here. its fine around contin but its harsh and i

m in the mud if it means a little more comfort.i would normally ride on something bigger. If i dont race then i dont need that advantage of never spinning on the spot and needing to dig down so its no big deal.makes things more intresting too.

remember to get a 1.5/1.75 tube for it.stuffing bigger into it can be a pain.

    ffs.why does that happen?

anyhows.. if i had to choose then i`d buy a pair of those bonty 1.8 jones mud x things in tubeless. ive got one on the rear and on the hardtail its comfy and seems to roll well considering its tread and girth.hooks up well too.

Fantastic tyres for deep, deep mud (or very fast dry courses). Can’t recommend them for scrabbly or off-camber stuff though. For Mayhem over the last few years I’ve found a 1.5 Cross-Country on the back with something wider with side-to-side grip worked best.

Great tyre in mud and a good mile eater. Pretty lethal on stuff like wet roots, but the speed you gain inbetween more than makes up.

They’re crap tyres, they’re just very thin, so they cut through the gloop.

If you want a good tyre for those conditions get some Schwalbe Black Shark Mud 1.5″, they actually have a tread pattern that works! The only thing to use at Mayhem/SITS etc in the wet!

It wouldn’t surprise me if the tread patten on the Conti’s was crap. As the I’ve not been impressed with the other Conti tyres I’ve had in the past – Vapour, Gravity and Speed Kings.

Might give the Mud Sharks a whirl then (pun intended!) 🙄

I have a pair in the shed rode once and replaced was not a fan, though they did look cool 😳 might give them another chance and put them on a Pace RC100 I am rebuilding, now I have a bit more weight in my legs.

Mud shark on the front, conti on the rear.
