The saddle that came on my nukeproof was horrendous on my sit bones. That bad that I robbed the cheap bonty one of the sons bike!
That’s now splitting so watching this thread with interest..

    Another B17?

thought i would have a change, the one i replaced tore away from the front rivet. the cambium was a replacement.
never had a damaged b17 before, i guess it might have put me off a bit.

All boils down to what fits your arse, but fwiw my two go too saddles are charge spoon (cheap option – £20) or fizik gobi (expensive option, but more comfortable c £90)

flux (same shape as spoon, feels a bit softer though) or a bel air on my bikes both comfy but I’ll probably just get flux from now on as they are cheap

Fabric scoop shallow. Only had it 3 weeks, and it’s the comfiest saddle I’ve had to date. Fabric have 3 saddle widths, 3 levels of curve/sag and then a multitude of rails/ hull materials. Got to be one there for you.

Smp Tony after trying loads after I got back riding I couldn’t get comfy. Cyclesense in tad let me trial 2 different ones before I bought too. They look silly but are great

I got a Charge Spoon £16 other week from Wiggle. Replaced a £70 Ti Falcon I suffered for too long – it sounded bling and came on the bike so should be better than a cheap one, right?. Had a Spoon on the other bike and it’d never caused the same suffering.

I guess it’s a case of you either get lucky with the saddle that comes with your bike, or trial and error to buy a 3rd party/specialist fitted saddle.

I can do 6 hours on my standard carrera saddle with no real issues, up it to 8 hours and I get some notable discomfort (to the point I have to stand on the pedals to relive the discomfort for a few mins at a time) which I negate by wearing padded inner shorts on long rides .. Not sure what the proper name for them is.. I call them incontinence pants!

Spoons are a bit narrower than 150mm, nearer 143. Specialized do a wide, 150mm saddle though. Might be worth a try Tony?

Old style Selle Italia Flite for me. I’ve used loads others and occasionally try something else but I always end up on a Flite, both for road and off road.

However, I do know that the lack of channel and general firmness doesn’t suit everyone at all.

I got on with Flites for years then had one with an embroidered logo on the sides and i was literally a pain in the arse. I changed to Fizik and they’ve been fine but I don’t think the quality’s as good as the Flite.

not many of these seem like ‘comfy’ saddles
charge spoon? fairly minimal and hard.

I like WTB saddles and their site lets you sort through sizes i think quite easily.

i’m planning on getting a WTB Pure some time soon, tho not sure it fits your sizes

got an SMP, not sure which but quite squishy, really comfy for a while, now i find it weird. pushes my sits bones apart, or seems to

just ordered a wide leather saddle. stick with what i know and keep my fingers crossed.

tried a few of the ones reccomended…charge spoon, too hard, charge scoop, too soft. spesh saddles used to fit me, now they dont.
sdg belair used to fit me, now too narrow. fizik rubbed my arse crease. the saddle on my cube fits me, looked for one, cant find one.

    cheers all.

If you want wider than the spoon/scoop what about the fabric cell? I had a scoop and now have the cell and it loads comfier. But heavier but then so am I.

Whatever worked last time, asking on the internet as to what will fit your arse is pointless.

OP…B17 rider here and it’s just the best (how STW predictable)

On a slight aside and not wanting to divert your thoughts away from a good saddle but a 100% clean chamois for every ride usually sorts boils out very quickly. Are you sure your’s is clean! 😉

after being a bit strange initially i really like the fizik gobi now.

flexy were needed, stiff were needed – I’m sure theres a joke in there somewhere but I’m a bit sleepy today.

arse – saddle interface is very personal though.

Charge and fabric for me. Someone above said they are narrow which the standard ones are (although I have used narrower). Lasttime I looked Fabric had massively increased the range of options and had some in different widths. Worth a look.

the saddle on my cube fits me, looked for one, cant find one.

Might be worth contacting some Cube dealers as customers will often want to replace the OEM saddle and the shops try to sell them off. Square Wheels in Strathpeffer maybe?

fitted a brooks cambium to replace a worn out b17. my arse is now raw, with 2 very large boils on one side near my ring.

I had this problem after using a Cambium for a while, I persevered with the Cambium as it was a Xmas present.
Last resort was swapping over to different (i.e. newer and not worn ) shorts that had a slightly thicker/firmer pad – this sorted it out for me last year.

    His opening gambit is:
i need something wide, 150mm or so and long, 270mm

and NO-ONE has made any innuendo based comments on that thus far…
Shame on you STW. Ten minutes on teh naughty step.

Charge Spoons on all my bikes. The only thing I don’t like is the stitching which can cause some wear on lycra.

Are the Fabric saddles similar in shape & comfort?

I used to get on with a charge spoon when they first came out, also managed with most minimal padded saddles. I now think I need a wide saddle. I don’t have a lot of natural padding on my arse, but when it rubs it is from a saddle being too narrow.
in 30 odd years of cycling I have never worn padded shorts. today I am wearing some endure padded undies, with a massive dollop of germaline smeared around my ring.

Shame you don’t get on with them – pretty good perch for £20ish…

Anyone use a Spesh Toupe Sport(the cheap one)? I got measured the other day and told I need a 155mm wide saddle, and the shop recommended this. This is on a Croix de Fer.

I once bought a Specialized Avatar in medium, having been measured by the shop. It was by some distance, the most uncomfortable saddle I have ever owned.
