    Ah – you could be right. We do get a similar service from the several regulars though – packages get left on the front doorstep (we have an open but covered porch), and if it needs signing for the postie will usually sign himself (or herself), which is fine with me. Also tend to get a hello from whichever one’s turn it is if I see them in the street, or in the next bit of the village over the main road, though I don’t know any of their names. Is still kind of awkward tipping when there are several of them.

    We used to tip our postie, as he was a top bloke doing a grand job.

    He was a high flying top exec at the local arm of a big multi-national. Sadly he suffered some form of severe mental breakdown. Ultimately he was well enough to return to work, and chose to avoid the stresses that came with his previous job and began a new life with the post office.

    He’s now moved, and we’ve had a succession of different Posties ever since. Maybe they can’t handle the pressure!
