Cheap parking central london?

OK STW hive mind, I need advice!

We have a family trip for the four of clan HB down to that thar London at easter break.
Staying at the Novotel near St Pauls.

Any suggestions for best place to park? An costs? Anyone with a friendly driveway near the centre?

Any ways of timing my journey to minimise congestion charges?

Not sure about the congestion charges, I avoid like the plague. King’s Mall, in Hammersmith, which is my usual car park when I go up to London Village, usually costs about £15, parking from around midday to approx 11.30pm.

You would be better off parking at a tube station in the suburbs and catching the tube in. Failing that there are a couple of car parks nr St Katherines Dock that I use.

When you find cheap parking in central London, can you please point me in the direction of next week’s lottery numbers?

This is how far North I had to go to dump the car gratis for a few days last time I was staying in Centralish London. Nice bike ride into town and back though 🙂

BTW, I took the photo as I was liable to forget where I’d left the bloomin’ car!

Depends from where you are driving in I suppose. I do the Hammersmith thing because that’s where you end up if you come in on the M4 and drive til you can’t drive any more.

I parked here on Monday for the day (needed to take a load of kit to CL) £27 from 7.00am to 6.00pm.

Last time I worked near St. Paul’s, all the lads on site were parking at Smithfield Market Visitors car park. Don’t know how much it costs now but it seemed pretty cheap back then. http://www.smithfieldmarket.com/content/visitor_information

you realise none of ‘cheap, parking, central & london’ can be used in the same sentance? Unless you have a mate you can slip a 4 pack of beer to in exchange for his parking space then your very unlikely.

Could try ‘park droid’ or whatever the most commonly used parking app is, people add & update free and cheeky parking spaces all across the country. ITs sometimes very useful, and other times out of date & pointless, worth a try though.

on sundays and after 6:30(i think) there is free parking along charlotte st and maple st. dunno if that’s of any help

Place called Butlers Wharf – its just across Tower Bridge and literally 5-10 mins walk to London Bridge tube station (northern line). It’s a bargin at only £20 per day!! Use it lots when I’m in London

CFH: I am very disappointed that you only have two parking spaces in central london, though redemption by being an Ovlov owner.

Should really have said CHEAPEST parking, I know there is no such thing as cheap by Northern standards.
Considering I am saving several hundred pounds by driving rather than train,cheap means least rip off that still leaves me quids in compared with cost of taking a family of four on our tax payer subsidised, but still rip off train service.

So all practical suggestions really welcome.

How many nights? Parking around Brent Cross tube is free apart from between 11am-Midday when the area gets checked over by traffic wardens. If we’re going down to London we park near BC station at 12 and get the tube in.

Chb, sorry, should have got back sooner, King’s Mall is a big multistory connected to King’s Mall shopping centre, so it’s just drive in. It’s biggest advantage, for me, at least, and molgrips as well, is we’re both coming in from the West on the M4, but also it’s barely five minutes walk from Hammersmith Tube station, and even closer to the Hammersmith & City station, so it makes it very convenient for getting in and out of the city. One evening I had tickets for a free iTunes Festival gig, so after work I filled the car up at the garage along the road from me. As I left, I checked the time; 4.00pm. I pulled into King’s Mall at exactly 5.30pm, and I live pretty much 100 miles away.

Travelling saturday AM staying till monday PM.
In the past we have stayedout near Heathrow and parked at a tube station at Hounslow and caught the tube in.
Staying more central this time as the hotel had a great offer on.

Definitely park outside and tube in. You really really really do not want to be driving to any location in central London – it takes bloody ages even if the traffic is light. The sheer volume of junctions and traffic lights is infuriating.

Took me 45 mins from Canary Wharf to the beginning of the M4 late one evening, which is what, 10 miles, when there were no traffic queues, got through every light first cycle. If it’s at all busy then forget it.

I come in on the M40 and park at Hillingdon tube station. It takes about an hour into central London but is very cheap – £5 per day.

Cornwall road car park, near Waterloo Station SE1 and get a bus up to St Pauls – 10 mins max. 20 quid a day. Pretty cheap for where it is.

plenty of free street parking nr south eailing tube station and some near acton too if I remember correctly. both zone 3 piccadilly.

Try concentrating on having fun instead of penny-pinching?

I live in that place called London you are welcome to leave car outside my house on road its a 5 min walk to train station Southgate Piccadilly Line and then its 24 mins to Kings Cross 29 mins to covent garden.
(my road hasn’t got controlled parking yet-last in the area!)
Oh and perfectly safe leafy suburb…

I know a place I use behind waterloo station/st thomas’ s that was £8 all day but I think its £12 now. Email me if you want details, its tucked away but run by a kosher company, just turn up get ticket off guard and pay on exit.

You can go further in than N2 if it’s weekend.

Around where I live (Stroud Green / Crouch End) it’s only 2 hour residents CPZ Mon-Fri. Couple of minutes walk to Harringay station, then 16 mins on the train into Moorgate. Less than 10 mins walk at the other end to be standing next to St Pauls, or take the tube.

Put “mount view road N4” into google maps to see where I mean – it’s only a few mins from the A1 and the covered reservoir always has spaces next to it. I can post you visitors permits if you do need to cover weekdays.

I presume you’re staying at the Blackfriars Novotel as it’s the nearest to st Paul’s – some of their other hotels have parking facilities and aren’t far away if it’s possible to change.
