Whilst I get where you’re coming from I’m – personally) happy to accept a branding sponsorship thing isn’t really an ad of the sort I expect to be able to turn off.

Just my opinion mind. (maybe it’s more intrusive on other platforms too, seems fairly innocuous on android/chrome unless I’m worried about being brain washed.
But advertising doesn’t work on me anyway 😉)

Partnerships like this are really important to us as they help us maintain and develop the site but we are looking forward to much more than just a financial relationship with Chain Reaction.

are there going to be synergies in software development?

I have no problem with the new partnership whatsoever. I’ll leave the problem creating and arguing to others who I’m sure will be along shortly!

I’m pretty sure the new crc website is based on the classifieds from here

Lolz, I guess the big knobs at CRC tried searching the forum for feedback, gave up and

That’s why they’ve created a feedback survey specifically to get your thoughts on what is important to you when it comes to their services

To be serious for a moment there have been a few threads, one especially comes to mind, regarding the new CRC site that rendered the filters hopeless. That situation has improved but it originally lacked some basic stuff like filtering out what wasn’t in stock or what wheel size you wanted for tyres, or disc sizes etc. Of course it may have been deliberate to make customers trawl through more product but it certainly created some irritation. There were also comments about the loss of order histories, order confirmations that didn’t confirm details like size and/or colour ordered.

Ha, I also thought I’d been logged out when I saw the banner ad. Can’t say it’s bothering me much so far though

Well I get 15% off at Cotswold with my BMC card. Can I expect 15% off all orders from CRC with my ST membership then?

I guess it’s easy to be cynical, but CRC for all it’s faults, and it clearly has them, remains perhaps the best known on line retailer in the UK, and it’s in our interests that it responds to constructive criticism (that at least, they’ve asked for)

Good opportunity to be heard as a consumer at least.

Sounds like good news to me. Is this meaning a reduction in the ads for Free members so it becomes more useable (and maybe get more converted to Paid members)? Assuming the partnership helps reduce costs.

The only reason I keep up my membership is because the forum is virtually unusable as a free member.

    Sounds promising.

Roof Bar thread has not only been closed but deleted too – it was hardly an advert! Mods must have got out of bed the wrong side this morning!

That’s ridiculous if that’s the case.
How long until you’re not allowed to buy and sell anything on here or not allowed to mention CRC having a crap website?

If you’re paying for an ad free experience but still getting ads, you may as well be a free user and use some of the unmentionable software.

Aye, I’m sure a quick search of the forum would find the information instantly 😎

Found it really odd it was closed and deleted.

Wiggle killed CRC. Website is still useless with crap filters.

That said I think this is a good thing for STW, and those moaning about ads really need to get a grip. Just scroll down and it goes away, you can literally only see it at the top of the page. Infact once you click into a thread it goes away as well!!

That is a bit pathetic about the roof rack thread though, is it because someone mentioned ebay?

Yes it works so well. so, so well.

It’s Select * from products where productCategory = ‘Tyres’ AND wheelSize = ‘27.5’ AND inStock = ‘True’

    It’s not exactly rocket science.

So, 2 of the worst search functions and user interfaces on the entire internet combine forces. I can hardly wait to see what unfolds.

Nice one! Good to get a bit of sponsorship. All the TV programmes seem to these days!

There are a lot of people whinging when what this news actually means is STW gets to continue on living. Sure it’s a big CRC advert at the top of the page, but I’m pretty sure people on here already know if they’re going to shop with a big online shop of stick to smaller shops so what’s the problem?

I get the complaints about things like Isuzu and advertorials telling us the cure to dropper post problems is One Up, but this just seems like whinging for the sake of whinging.

I don’t mind the sponsorship – but the advert is ruddy huge on my iMac. Needs to be half the depth.

And there is advert creep in the sidebar >>>>
    …Booking . com anyone! 🙂

So it seems another post deleted

    More than one…

It’s the principle of it. Lots of us jumped in with subscriptions because we get to both support STW and browse without ads, but the they’re coming back, and the subscriptions are sold as promising an “ad-free website”.

On top of that daring to mention that it’s a problem and pointing out that subscribers are forced to use a third party solution to deal with it results in a snotty message from the moderator team quoting the terms and conditions. Sorry guys, but if you want to get grumpy and dive into the legal mumbo-jumbo, I’m pretty sure you can’t advertise something and then offer a materially different product.
