    Yes I have ridden bikes.

Look on there, bike times at the bottom, production car times at the top.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N%C3%BCrburgring_Nordschleife_lap_times

7 faster cars than the fastest bike

    Watch these

    Now kiss my feet

LOL Rob Hoyles… i’ve raced against him.

Ex bike journo who wanted to try his hand at racing… he ended up doing pretty well later on as he was on a nice selection of bikes for several years 🙂

Road legal production bikes V race cars.

yes something like a porche 956 will be faster than a production 600 bike.

However you try to ride cross county in your slow little car against any decent bike and you will be toast.

Teh bugatti veyron test driver could not keep up with a production SBR 1000 on the road – and melted the brakes trying

have you really ridden a decent bike? I doubt it or you wouldn’t make such daft claims

As for the Ring times… i know the blokes who’ve owned the Ring lap records for bikes for several years. One of them was ‘the baron’ for Performance Bikes magazine and runs a guesthouse out there. Top fella.

He’s also an instructor in a 996RS Porsche and goes pretty well in that.

    However…. we’re talking about a Bandit v car, not an Ariel Atom v a BMWs1000rr.

all of them were on standard engine bikes, although he did have Ohlins forks in the R1, it was a 2005 bike…. funnily enough, i had the forks on my bike after him 🙂

So the fastest bike round the ring is a GSXR600 @ 7:17 and the distance was 19,100 m, which is faster than an R1, an MV Augusta, and an RSV1000.

The fastest production car is a radical SR8 @ 6:48 and he did an extra 1k

    Am I missing something there?

A GSXR600 is the equivalent of a sports car right?

Veyron is 11th fastest round the top gear test track, hardly a fair race eh?

the fact a standard road bike (that’s valued less than £5000) is only 30 secs slower over 13 miles than a Radical which costs i dunno, 100 times it’s price and built to be the fastest thing on the planet ?

    🙂

I’ve been to the Ring once… worst experience of my bikign life… i think my laptime was counted in hours..

    TandemJeremy

Yes you are missing something. thats a standard middleweight bike against a very focused race (if road legal) car

so you still think your corrado is faster thana bike with twice the power to weight ratio and that accelerates much faster according to the stats published.

There are many faster cars than bikes TJ, look at the figures, they are staring you in the face.

    Watch the vids too.

Really? find me a car that out accelerates a sbr 1000? NOthing except real exotica will get close.

So what bikes have you ridden?

your corrado is much much slower than the bandit 600 – which is trhe equivalent of a dull saloon car.

we have given you the numbers.

There is a good comparison for you BTCC cars v BSB bikes. Bikes around 5 – 7 seconds a lap quicker round brands hatch

I said the Bandit must have been broken mate 😆

Fastest I have ridden is a VTR1000 which was feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeching fast, in a straight line, introduce corners and you have to be Rossi to keep up with a quick car.

Caterham R500 will accelerate as quick as a SBR1000, 0-60 2.88, hardly exotica.

Comparing like for like, the best of the best.

    Silverstone

    Lap records

    Moto GP – Stoner 2’02’020

    F1 – Schumacher 1:18.739

    Bit quicker eh

    LOOOOOOOOOOS ER!

vtr 1000 is not a fast bike

So yo now admit the bandit you beat was broken – you didn’t originally.

VTR1000 not a fast bike, alright mate.

Bandit must have been Jezza, you lot said so.

So I thought bikes where faster than cars, clutching at straws much?

Must be past your bed time old fella 😆

a vtr is not a fast bike – its fast compared to cars but in the bike world its no speedster. similar to a modern sports 600

It’s true though, there’s a tiny number of cars at the very top of the tree that are faster than a typical sports bike. They’re all pure exotica though, whereas you can nip down to any biker meeting place and find a car park full of bikes that’ll rip all but those very fastest cars a new one. Mostly being ridden by fat accountants.

Of course none are a match for my mighty 1.8 diesel focus. RAAAR. Well, maybe once it snows.

Cougar, I notice you seem to drop out of this thread for a bit, then drop back in occasionally to quote me then berate me.
I too passed my driving test about twenty years ago and I don’t remember the topic coming up in my test. I would point out for the sake of accuracy that I am not IAM certified as I have not done any training with them.
I have passed my driver 2 course though as trained by the Scottish Ambulance Service which is based on the police roadcraft handbook and incorporates a lot of stuff similar to the IAM training (so I was told by a couple of instructors- both bikers btw)
If I hadn’t passed that, and the three assessments after that, I wouldn’t be allowed to do
my job! I might have my I’d badge somewhere, do you want me to take a pic of that and post it up?
Can we at least put that point to bed now? Oh aye, sorry, nothing mentioned about filtering in the three week course or subsequent assessments.. Prob cos I was looking at things like road positioning, limit points and exemptions..
Re the incident I mentioned, you haven’t quoted the bit where I said I checked again, and braked to avoid a collision. I still think doing 30 mph between two lanes of slow moving traffic is stupid and irresponsible- for anyone!
    Lastly
So, did you read my post where I said I checked again and was able to brake to avoid a collision?

No. There are a FEW cars that are faster than most bikes. Supercars they’re called. The sort of tackle we dream of owning.

That said, there are situations where the car has the upper hand – in the wet, and ultimate top speed due to aerodynamics. Bikes have crap aerodynamics.
But put the average bike ridden by a competent rider (not a racer, a decent road rider like say TJ or myself) against a competent driver in a fast car, and the car simply doesn’t stand a chance.
A mate of mine had a 300bhp Delta Integrale, it felt similar to my Speed Triple rev for rev, to be honest, but when he hit the red line, I still had 3000 rpm to go, and the power was still climbing

I had a friendly dice with a rather fast Maserati up the A31 on that bike. We were both giving it some real stick, it’s fair to say. I pulled away from him reasonably well up to about 100mph, off the roundabouts, then he would pull back closer as we got faster and I started to struggle without a fairing. So this was 40-130mph mid-high range performance. It was fun. We exchanged friendly waves as we parted. But that was a fast car that would have a Corrado beat for sure.

Blimey- seems to have turned into a ‘my toys better than your toys’ contest. With a fair amount of Willy waving going on.

Some people like bikes, some like cars. Some like both. We all like Mountain Bikes.
Whatever you like- enjoy it! And let others enjoy what they like.

Throw in a bit of traffic than ANY car is mincemeat on the road 🙂

An S1000RR has getting on for double the power of a VTR1000 and 40KG’s lighter.

I agree the fastest cars are faster then the fastest bikes, but the ones most of us can afford to own are not.

Cars are faster than bikes. Like I said compare the best of the best for both, ie F1 and Moto GP, and bikes have no chance.

Watch pretty much any Nurburgring clip on youtube and you always see bikes being overtaken, even by average cars.

Your race up the A whatever was in a straight line. Im not on about drag racing, real riding with corners.

Cost doesn’t even come into it. How can you compare a car with air con, leather, sat nav, etc to a bike. Obviously a bike is going to be cheaper!!

Traffic will swing things the bikes way.

If you own a bike- you wouldnt want all that sh1t on it anyway.

Yes – the fastes cars are quicker than the fastest bikes. Stands to reason. The downforce an F1 car generates means it could drive upside down once the aero effect comes into play so it is bound to be able to complete a circuit much quicker than a bike that has almost no downforce.

But your original claim about your Corrado was ridiculous. I had a TT (2.0TFSi) of similar performance (if not slightly quicker) than your Corrado and there was no way I would ever think it could out perform any but the smaller (restricted) bikes in most real life circumstances.

I had a few races with bikes in my old Westfield with a Hayabusa engine in it. It weighed 480Kgs and had 180BHP, 0-60 in under 4 secs I could just about keep up with a bandit 600 etc a sports 600 would be quicker.

I would bet money on beating a Corrado anywhere in that car, even with a numpty like me driving.

My father in law has one with a Puma engine tuned to 170bhp and geared specifically for hill climbs – 0-60 <4secs. I want it but have nowhere to store it.

Fech you lot, I will be back with video evidence.

Theres a place near me with a stretch of private road with few roundabouts etc, where loads of bikers race at the weekend.

All their bikes are probably broken or they can’t ride for shite though 🙄
