also the 9000 was a mistake to get into bed with Fiat – sharing a platform with the Chroma.. doh!
Yeah because fiat can’t make a good floor pan (Fiat Tipo -> Lancia Delta).
The 9000 was far from a mistake, it sold well and had a great rep. It was bigger, quicker and better equipped than anything in its sector when released.
Obviously I’m biased, but many others feel this is the best car Saab made.
I bought mine of the president of the UK owners club with just 49k on it. I couldn’t find anything on sale new that matches the luxury and performance on offer for less than £40k.
It is a sad state, I had a 9-3 turbo for a lot of years, it was dynamically challenged in the corners but foot down through the third gear was a delight. My dad had a 9000 Carlsson about 1990 and it was a monster. It did have a habbit of blowing the turbo airhose off whilst overtaking a line of traffic which was a bit scary.
I find it hard to see how they can recover. If you have 20k in your pocket do you want to buy a car from a company that has a high possibility of going under. Catch 22.
