Going off on a tangent am I the only person that doesn’t think Cannock is all that slippy? Was there yesterday and I thought it was grippy, really grippy whilst slightly damp.

My High Rollers and HD’s seem to work as I want them on most surfaces that I ride. I tried some none BC RQ’s and they were plain dangerous so have been a bit nervous about trying the posher ones so will probably stick with what I know.

I’ve had my HD’s for a year now and they seem to have worn well and I ride a fair bit. They are evil on tarmac though.

Most of Cannock isnt that slippy…it tends to be the very beginning and the bit after 3 black sections going up…bugger all traction on that section IMO

+1 for HD as TS front PS rear.
I like FireXCPros on mid-wide rims in big mud but I’m a bit odd like that.

Am I the only one to have tried the Bontrager XR4’s then? Fantastic tyre! Really grippy, rolls well and confidence inspiring. Nice large tyre too cause the 2.2 is easily a match for other brands 2.35’s. A bargain to boot. What’s not to like???

Ridden Conti Rubber Queens 2.4 on fully rigid at Cannock in all conditions. 20 ish psi (I get away with it as the tyres are huge). These tyres are great in The Peaks, Snowdonia, Llandegla etc, everywhere else I ride except for Cannock. Might be the slippery pebbles and not the tyres?

HDs by far the best tyre I have ever used – I use the PaceStar version, roll fine, grip like one-oh and very progressive in the turns.

If you don’t want yours I’ll have them.

I love my HR II upfront and my 2.25 Beaver rear. When its warmer I’m simply going to swap out the Beaver for a Ardent.

Then again I ride rocky and muddy Peaks etc not hardcore pebbles 8)

Well lots of views… I think I will have a go with CM front HD rear for at least one ride but will also look at conti 2.2 RQ or Purgatory control.

That’ll be those pebbles that you struggled with…

I will however agree with you on the HR. I still rate the old ones much more than the Minion so I’d imagine that the II’s are even better.

I hated the old HR- thought they were too ‘tall’? I’m a nervous rider- made me more nervous. Weird as apperently according to the reviews they only amended the tread pattern. I think the HRII must have had the profile/volume dropped abit as a 2.4HRII doesn’t feel or look bigger than a 2.3 HR.

I’ve no idea what the lean/grip etc patch means though on the official review (bikeradar)

Ralphs front & rear did just fine around The chase today………

    BTW I think XR4’s are sh!te,slow,heavy & not particularly grippy …
