    Good morning all.

We’ve decided our family is missing a 4 legged member since we lost our beloved Lara in January.

So…in order to get out and about on the bikes when our new member arrives with us, I’m considering buying a dog trailer.

    Obvious one is Burley.

However, there is someone local selling a Burley Minnow for a good price, therefore wondered if anyone on here had ‘converted’ a child trailer to a pet trailer?

Now, if anyone has a Burley pet trailer now surplus, I’d be happy to consider purchasing.

    Thanks.

Can’t be much difference between a child trailer and a hound one can there? In a related note, there’s a fella who I regularly see ride past my house with a cockapoo in a trailer, always happily wagging its tail as they go past. Makes my day…

We have the fabulously named Tail Wagon and the Minnow looks identical if a bit smaller, but then big enough for 1 dog.

Fyi if your bike has a through axel you’ll need a new one to adapt

It’s worth a test if you can before buying anything.  I took the child seats/straps out of ours and found a bit of foam to use as a base instead so effectively made it much the same as a pet trailer.

He howled the whole way to the beach and back! Tried it a couple more times with various changes/treats/bone to chew on/etc.  Still howled the whole time so had to give it up as not going to happen.

To be fair, weird dog anyway, howls every morning, howls every time left alone for more than 10 minutes, etc.

I’ve an older Burley Duo, maybe a bit wide for what you need but would be great for a larger dog, £40.00 if you’re close to the Huddersfield area.

Does need a clip (£8 ish i think).

You did better than me. Our labrador wouldn’t be persuaded to go near it. I left cheese and dog biscuits in the middle, he stretched in and nibbled the few he could reach without going inside, then walked away from the cache of treats.

, you’re welcome to have a look if you’re near Bristol. Its not a Burley one, its similar to this https://www.trixie.de/en/dog/on-tour/bicycle-accessories/bicycle-trailer-for-dogs-1001093328-1001093357

We used a kids trailer with our pooch. It worked but the high point is further back for a child so the dog couldn’t sit up properly without some adaption. First few goes were a howling and whining embarrassment. We then opened the roof up so the dog could sit with head and shoulders out, a bit like a tank commander! Dog now very happy

If your dog is small, should be fine.

Likewise we put a block of foam in to replace the seats

Also don’t underestimate how hard it is to pull a trailer and dog!.

If you’re local to Manchester I’ve got an old trailer you’re welcome to try out.

Thanks all. In NE Scotland, otherwise I would have gratefully accepted to try, etc.

We’ve got a Levo hardtail which will be the tow vehicle, so should be no issues there – fingers crossed.

    Thanks.
