right, you’ve bought the “wrong” one.

You can use it as a wifi access point with your home hub acting as the modem, but unless you do a lot of mucking about with ip addresses and port bollocks, you wont be using the new box in all its glory as a dhcp server/firewall thingummy as well which is half the point.

Send it back and get the D7000.

    Thanks – back it goes.

To confirm, the “right” one will be a direct replacement for the HH? Just plug it in type of thing. I don’t know anything about ports and IP address changing…

Bt were usless as far as i was concerned they more or less say everything is fine but it took over a year to get reasonable wifi i can now stream music without constant interuption. Ive since moved to their budget plusnet company much better to deal with.

yes the D7000 is just plug in and go. Same port in the back for the phone line to connect to as it does now to your HH

It has a browser based admin portal, the broadband settings IIRC are preloaded (just select BT BB) but are easy to find anyway. Ping me an email or IM if you have any trouble.

We suffered the same problems for years and had a succession of Homehubs from BT with no improvement so in the end we bit the bullet and got the house Cat 6 wired, which means big users are linked direct by cable. Massive improvement though we still get the odd dropout.
