As I said above; it’s not kamikaze, it’s bloody good goalkeeping. I reckon he averted half a dozen dangerous situations by coming off his line the way he did. If they’d turned into goal threats, and Al-jazeera had managed to convert half of them he wouldn’t be blamed for poor anticipation or for being beaten in one-on-one situations. It’s a ‘risky’ strategy for perception but it’s a very calculated risk if you look at it.
It’s like Grobbelaar in the 80’s, he’d come 12 or 15 yards for crosses, catch 90% of them, and turn 10 dangerous situations into 1 calamitous **** up. It’s just that you always remember the **** up, not the 9 chances that never happened as a result.
It’s the trouble with being a goalkeeper; you start with zero, the ‘for’ tally never goes up but make a mistake and the ‘against’ usually does.
