    New cabinet?
That’s [potentially] a brilliant tactical move – Rabb out and JRM or worse into position as deputy PM. Then dare the 1922 to kick him out of post and install his deputy.

There is no actual “deputy PM” that automatically becomes PM if Johnson can be removed. Raab has been acting as a “de facto deputy”… stepping in and looking panicked when Johnson is hiding (or ill)… but he hasn’t actually got a title or position that means anything beyond being a minister.

Apparently Therese Coffey wanted to speak to Boris yesterday but implies that she didn’t resign (like Patel) because she feels her presence at the DWP is important so the “wheels keep on turning”

    These folks are delusional.

Ultimately the Queen appoints the PM, even acting ones, and she would undoubtedly ask whether that person had the confidence of Parliament (ie the confidence of the majority of MPs – his/her party) and is able to form a government. She is advised by the Privy Council in how to exercise her Royal Prerogative when it comes to appointing PMs.

He’s clearly trying to delay the actual resignation until autumn in some vague hope that he can reverse the situation between now and then.

He needs gone today. I suspect this is the current argument taking place behind the scenes

Just managed to see the news.

Are these the reasons as stated by BBC ? What a bunch of non/minor-issues.

Should call for a GE for more fun.

Crikey how silly these people are and I don’t mean ordinary voters.

My view of UK main political parties … Tories are full of clowns, Labour full of self-obsessed righteousness takers, Lib Dem full of Unicorn dreamers, and SNP long term EU bureaucrats’ subordinate.

Let me get this right is the UK politics heading in the direction of N.Borneo (many “cowboys” over there) or has the politics of N. Borneo politics caught up with UK?

Now I want to see how the next PM handles Russia. Should be interesting coz the effects have started … No Presidents or PMs will last long with rising cost and shortages.

No, he should fight until the end. Why make it easy?

Ministers who leave their jobs get 25% severance pay, irrespective of time served. Guido Fawkes estimates this week’s mass departure will cost £420K. If another load of appointees then shortly are replaced that could be another few £100K’s!! It’s set in legislation so ‘non-negotiable’

(in fairness, Michelle Donelan has said the £16K she’s entitled to for her 2 days service will go to charity)

TBH, right now is the only time which she might be some use in terms of checks and balances. The **** has already bypassed these once by lying to her to get her to prorogue Parliament, so she won’t be putting up with any bullshit this time.

It’s a crappy system, needs changing, but in the absence of a written constitution, she’s one of the only defences we have right now.

Seriously, what the effing chuff is Boris now doing?! He’s now announcing a new Cabinet. Greg Clark, James Cleverley.

Just do one Bojo. You’re a disgrace.

The terror wasn’t just rubbish for the aristocracy, and a lot like cesar in Rome long before, attempting to democratise the system didn’t work out to plan.

No she isn’t, she’s largely ceremonial.
I agree, it would be amazing if the Queen could say to a PM “you’re totally shit, you’re fired” in an Alan Sugar stylee but sadly that’s not within the remit.

Farcical. Even if he can fill the cabinet table, there’s no way he can fill all the other ministerial roles.

One thing at a time. Push come to shove I reckon the Forces may have more allegiance to Her Maj than the Downing St crew. This may prove to be useful. 😉

But Sabah is Malaysian, I know there is corruption with politicians giving large tracts of rain forest to associates( nepotism) but I don’t see the connection to what is going on here

So he’s going to go, but not today cos he’s on a massive coke comedown?

I think the most she could do is ask the question (do you have the confidence, can you actually form a government etc), and ask the would-be PM to reconsider. You’re right, it’s largely, but not entirely, ceremonial. Otherwise anyone, regardless of their lack of Parliamentary mandate, could ask to serve as PM.

How I’ll laugh, when Johnson comes outside to speak, to tell everyone he was lying when he said he would resign and runs back inside no.10 😀

    Slight distraction folks.

They have it all … clowns, cowboys, takers, dreamers, bureaucrats … the last thing they have in mind is the welfare of the people.

I am just comparing developing/3rd world politicians with those of UK. Same rubbish but different place. Politicians are politicians.

I still think a GE should be called.

Don’t celebrate too soon coz the world is not out of the current weirdness nor return to normality yet.

Just put away your hang bag or pint for now until normality returns.

p/s: I have not watched news on telly for nearly 3 months now … coz they clash with my si-fi channels …

I think the most she could do is ask the question (do you have the confidence, can you actually form a government etc),

It’s a long while since I did any BPLS but if I recall the formalities it’s a request by the would be PM to form a government (generally after they’ve assembled one) followed by royal ascent to do so. She could theoretically withdraw that consent and there’s nothing to stop anyone trying to form one at any time.
As has been pointed out above, we elect members not a government. The members form a govt and then the Queen gives ascent for that government’s prime minister to conduct government on her behalf.

The PM is selected by the house, not specifically, the party in majority.

He could, theoretically be removed by the House without the need for a GE, though quite how is an odd conundrum, not in the least because it would practically mean the PLP proposing a Conservative govt at this juncture.
