Well, was doing the SiS 12 hour run today at Eastnor. Last 2 training runs were fantastic, I was flying.

Pre-race prep was far from ideal - up at 4 am Friday, Sat, Sun, 2 flights, 2 bottles of wine Friday night, so little sleep since Weds.

Started the run at 6am this morning and couldn't run to save my life. Uphill, downhill, on the flat - incapable of any movement which would be traditionally identified as running. Shuffled along for 4.5 hours, hip flexor buggered and severe bollock/undercarriage chafing, despite wearing what I always wear - bailed out for tea and cake then came home.

No blisters though.

Now walking like John Wayne.

Not happy.

Bugger 🙁

Assos minty arse lard on my bollocks has worked wonders in the chaffage department. No more salty raw scrotum now.

Wouldn't wish it on anyone, well not unless they were faster than me.

Chelsea like their moody petulant strikers, don't they? See Torres' face when he came off? Looked well fed-up.

He's not played as well as he could, for nearly two years now. Can he really blame all that on being at Liverpool? He hasn't bin very gracious about the whole thing, has he? He would do well to take a leaf out of Dirk Kuyt's book; selfless, hardworking and always committed. Kuyt may nor be the World'sbest player, but at least he isn't that deluded to believe he 'deserves' to win trophies simply cos of his name. Kuyt earns the respect he gets, Torres merely demanded it. Get stuffed you ungrateful poncey floppy haried git.

I would dearly love to see Chelsea really fall apart, slip out of the top five, and Liverpool rise like a Phoenix from the flames, and win every remaining game. How I would laugh....

I really think paying all that money for Carrol was insane, but then paying £50m for Torres far more so. Madness.

Suarez though, eh? He looks the real deal. How on Earth did he score that goal?? What an impossible angle. And he tore Man U apart couple of weeks ago. Shame we coldn't have had him in the Yerpa Cup. 🙁

Ah well.

Oh, and any Mackems moaning about that penalty; just one word: Karma. 😉

Fred - That was never a penalty. But Suarez what a player, best striker liverpool have had in a lot of years.

cruzheckler - lack of carbs is an unlikely explanation as I eat lots of carbs - also I felt shit from the very start, there was no depletion of ability, just complete absence.

Just an off day is all. Shit happens. Shame it was on the day of a 12hr race.

I assumed you were looking for sympathy, not answers - after all you're the sports science pro, and you gave the explanation up there in your first post:

Pre-race prep was far from ideal - up at 4 am Friday, Sat, Sun, 2 flights, 2 bottles of wine Friday night, so little sleep since Weds

Sometimes, you're just not good enough. You'd know all about that aracer so I would have thought you'd have been more of s consolation to iDave this evening. Seems you're more akin to gloating though. Whys that then?

I've had similar pre-race run ins before and been OK. I wouldn't advise that regime, but then again, I had a memorable 2 days. Odd that the shorts I always wear caused such bad chafing for the first time. Not after STW to be weeping in the streets, was just saying like. Some days just don't work out as we expected. That will be all.

Do you think your running gait was off as you were tired and a bit hungover? Running sluggish could cause problems you don't normally get.
Personally I couldn't go near booze days before a race. On the bright side, at least you are not dealing with sore feet and blisters.
But it does mean you will have to complete it next year now.

Can I weep in the streets? What, not even a little bit?

Gutted for you Dave... chaffed balls is enough to make anyone stop anything I'd reckon!

+1. Don't let us down Dave.

Btw I had a pair of shorts chafe my crotch on one ride - just once. Never before or since.

OK fine, feel free to shed a tear TSY

Yes, next year, fine then - I am doing another big run in June though and I better last a bit longer than this time round.

Not at all - it certainly wasn't meant to come across that way, though reading again I can see where you're getting that idea. I did mean to a bit more sympathetic - sorry, I do understand how it just is sometimes! Seemed strange that the obvious was being missed.
I've had similar pre-race run ins before and been OK.

Fair enough, but it's the sort of thing sometimes you can get away with, sometimes you can't. I've certainly had plenty of good results with poor prep, but certainly now age is catching up it's something I have to be a lot more careful with.

I didn't take aracers comment as gloating, more like pointing out what may be obvious. I suspect dehydration was the main culprit, caused by the flights/travel/wine induced disruption of normal routine.
