Changing frame and going from a very nice flexy 27.2mm to a 30.9mm.

Has to have around 15 – 20mm setback. And be black.

Extension is around 9″ to top.

The Easton EC90 setback seems to get quite a few recommendations as one of the most comfortable – anything else out there?

I know inline Thomsons are not very flexy but does the layback type have any comfort?

    27.2 and a shim ?

Definitely don’t want a ‘suspension’ seatpost.

I’ve considered shimming a 27.2mm and this would be ideal…but…however many people say this has never been an issue with a reputable and long shim there are still enough un-explained cracked seat tube stories and manufacturers still refusing to sanction the use of shims with their frames that I don’t want to take the risk, however small.

Kcnc are quite flexible. Have a look on the Clee cycles website.

Canyon do two different VCLS posts, one normal one and the ‘bladed’ 2.0 which looks like two leaf springs. They used to sell them through their online shop but I can’t find them now, but you could give them a ring and ask, it wasn’t any more expensive than any other mid-high end carbon post, £110 IIRC.

I’ve got one of the original ones and even on a road bike it’s noticeably more damped than the one it replaced.

Their trick is to use bassalt (igneous rock!) fibres in the carbon which have a higher hysteresis (damping) so they can make the posts flexible without the feeling of riding a spring (like a steel or titanium bike/seatpost). It’s genuinely in a different league to other carbon posts.

I have been using a Syntace Hi-flex in 30.9 with good results.
It is on a alloy hardtail and the bike isn’t overly harsh.
The tubeless tyres may help but I thought the ride may be a bit bone jarring but it surprisingly is not.
    Quite pricey though!
